Description:
SUPERVISOR, DESIGN SERVICES
Bluewater Power Distribution Corporation is the founding member of the Bluewater Power Group of Companies. Headquartered in Sarnia Ontario, Bluewater Power distributes power to over 35,000 customers in six Sarnia-Lambton communities. The Group of Companies also includes the following independent market driven private Corporations: Electek Power Services Inc., Bluewater Power Services Corporation, Bluewater Power Renewable Energy Inc., and Bluewater Regional Networks Inc.
This is a permanent position responsible for providing leadership, direction and support to the Design Services Department. This position will plan, oversee, direct, prioritize, review and approve electric distribution system designs related to capital expansion, infrastructure renewal and customer connection requests.
The position is responsible for providing a superior customer service experience, and will be a key representative of Bluewater Power Distribution to proactively engage, advocate and develop effective working relationships and coordinated projects with community partners, stakeholders, developers, contractors, vendors, municipalities and other utilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Engineering Technologist Diploma with C.E.T. designation and a registered member of OACETT
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, with P.Eng. designation and a registered member of Professional Engineers in Ontario would be considered an asset
- Minimum of 2+ years of experience in a leadership role
- Minimum of 5 years of electrical engineering/design experience in an electric distribution utility or related environment
- Possess an in-depth knowledge of an electric utility distribution system, specifically with respect to the design and operation of overhead and underground distribution systems and generator connections
- Demonstrated proficiency in electrical systems, drawings and technologies with working knowledge with SPIDACalc, AutoCAD, ESRI GIS System, MS Office, OHSA Rule Book and Utility Work Protection Code
- Fluency in project coordination disciplines to manage project scope and schedules
- Knowledge of electrical fundamentals, distribution system substations and related equipment including relays, as well as street lighting
- Working experience and knowledge of technical specifications, including the use of USF Standards, CSA, CEA, ESA, and IHSA regulations
- Knowledge and understanding of OEB Distribution System Code and Ontario Regulation 22/04
- Strong commitment to workplace safety, both independently and in a team environment
- Strong communication, customer service, presentation and interpersonal skills are essential
- Strong ability to lead change, engage, develop and motivate teams
- Organizational savvy and political acuity; ability to recognize and deal with sensitive issues in a discreet and professional manner
- Analytical with excellent reasoning and decision-making skills; ability to conduct research to support decisions and recommendations
- Must possess a valid class “G” driver’s licence

Responsibilities:
- Establish capital and O&M budgets and create schedules for the electrical distribution system in the areas of expansions, customer connections and enhancements
- Analyze load growth patterns for capacity and guidelines and develop long term plans for the distribution system growth
- Review and approve designs for overhead and underground distribution systems and street lighting systems
- Create and govern major equipment specifications
- Prepare and evaluate tender documents for all major projects
- Manage the Construction Verification Program, ensuring work completion with established construction practices, material standards, specifications and policies and procedures for the electric distribution system, all in compliance with O. Regulation 22/04
- Review and approve distribution system customer connection requests
- Point of contact with Municipalities for any new municipal projects/requests
- Manage the capital workflow processes
- Participant in developing work procedures and quality controls as it relates to the electric distribution system
- Assist to develop and coordinate with the safe and efficient work practices and procedures for the company
- Engage the design team to innovate and evolve the electric distribution system capabilities through automation, enhanced optimization, and provide recommendations for further efficiencies and performance
