Responsibilities:

  • Supervises designated staff by performing duties such as coordinating work assignments on assigned shifts, evaluating workload and workflow, and monitoring/optimizing staff performance and efficiency.
  • Ensures that staffing levels are adequate to handle anticipated workload. Directs staff to other areas, calls in staff and authorizes overtime as required. Provides a written and or verbal report to the Coordinator, Distribution Pharmacy Services, summarizing the various activities of the assigned shift and identifies any distribution issues.
  • Interprets and applies the provisions of the various collective agreements, in conjunction with Labour Relations, Human Resources and Coordinators and other Pharmacy supervisors.
  • In collaboration with Coordinator, Distribution Pharmacy Services provides input and recommendations for new or revised dispensary/parenteral services policies and procedures.
  • Implements drug distribution safety quality programs and initiatives such as Smart Pumps.
  • Participates in developing orientation programs for new staff and provides orientation in dispensary, parenteral service area, ward stock and other designated areas. Serves as a role model to other staff in the demonstration of performance objectives, work ethic and adherence to departmental policies
  • Monitors quality assurance and performs workload measurement of tasks in assigned area to ensure consistency within the department.
  • Participates as an interdisciplinary team member by performing duties such as communicating with Pharmacy team members, physicians, nurses and other professionals, providing information regarding products and operational policies, investigating and responding to complaints and attending meetings in order to ensure coordinated efforts of all functions pertaining to designated area.
  • Participates in pharmacy education programs by preceptoring student pharmacists, pharmacy residents, student pharmacy technicians and assistants in dispensary, parenteral service area, ward stock and other designated areas rotations.
  • In conjunction with the Coordinator, Distribution Pharmacy Services, recommends budget adjustments as appropriate.
  • Performs pharmacist functions as required, including dispensing medications, providing pharmaceutical care and providing input to the other members of the multidisciplinary team regarding patient care plans.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
