Responsibilities:

Are you seeking a dynamic role within the utility industry, which is currently experiencing significant changes? Do you possess the leadership qualities, strategic thinking, and commitment necessary to guide a team towards enhancing their skills and becoming industry leaders? This opportunity offers the chance to broaden your leadership horizon and play a crucial role in the energy transition. As a key member of the Grid Modernization department, you will lead a diverse range of initiatives, including distribution infrastructure projects, electrification, continuous improvement, and grid modernization efforts. Below are the detailed responsibilities for this pivotal position.

  • Plans, schedules, organizes, reports on status and supervises the implementation of electrical distribution system projects including, budget estimates, detailed estimates, complete designs, obtaining approvals, liaising with other internal departments, municipalities, design and civil contractors, regulatory agencies, and customers to provide project information in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates and participates in site plan reviews to identify in advance any potential challenges or hydro servicing requirements for all types of proposed developments or re-developments.
  • Ensures designs are completed with adequate lead times and within capital budget and KPI requirements.
  • Monitors project estimated vs. actual costs and reviews variance reports with team.
  • Conducts the process review and continual improvement of the design/build cycle to align with industry best practices.
  • Plans, organizes and supervises daily activities of department.
  • Provides coaching, development, performance management, technical guidance and advice.
  • Provides input into department goals and objectives.
  • Leads and/or participates in department projects and key initiatives to ensure quality and timely completion within budget.
  • Researches, recommends and implements new or enhanced policies, procedures and processes to improve operational effectiveness.
  • Ensures compliance to legislative, regulatory and Health & Safety policies, procedures and standards.
  • Support quarterly forecasting of current year capital budget. Review project statuses with Design Technologists and prepare reports for senior management.
  • Assist with responding to deficiencies identified by the Electrical Safety Authority and internal/external staff after the project has been released for construction. Assist in developing/prioritizing action plans with various stakeholders, change orders, proposes changes and improvements.
  • Provides advice to customers and consultants, monitors department work progress to ensure proper customer service levels are maintained and deals with escalations.
  • Supervise staff, Performance Reviews, Attendance, Vacation approvals.
  • Provide input to the department budgeting process in accordance with corporate timelines and complete department specific budgets as required.
  • Contribute to preparing evidence or other necessary documents for regulatory or financial reporting.
  • Participate in the tendering process by reviewing tenders, issuing tenders, and managing external contractors as required.
  • Ensure Conditions of Service, General Underground Manual and Subdivision Specifications Manual are up to date.
  • Ensure Engineering Software Systems such as AutoCAD, PLSCADD, Quadra, and other tools required for the department are up to date and accurate.
