Description:

The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) student society, and works to improve the academic, social and personal lives of the 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus. The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC.
Position title: Supervisor
Reports to: Outlet Manager/Sous Chef
Department: Food & Beverage
Supervises: Outlet Employees
Employee Status: Permanent, Full - time
Compensation: $19.00 per hour
Position Overview
The Supervisor is responsible for the operational and financial success of the operation. This role requires a self-motivated individual to ensure timely and professional service to our guests. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, experienced operator, able to motivate their immediate team and superior customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Adhering to all AMS policies and procedures as well as other entity regulations such as Food Safe, Health and Safety etc.
  • Providing friendly, prompt, courteous, professional service to all guests
  • Meeting and exceeding sales goals through suggestive sales techniques
  • Demonstrating and applying above average product knowledge resulting in sales increases
  • Actively assisting the Outlet manager with managing human resources responsibilities including, but not limited to scheduling, training, briefing, mentoring, developing, evaluating, and ensuring employees follow procedures and instructions.
  • Able to utilizing all computer hard- & software according to AMS guidelines
  • Maintaining daily, weekly and monthly records of cash reconciliation, revenue summaries, costing, month-end journal entries, and payroll functions such as, timesheet verification and submission
  • Ensuring at all times that all outlet menus, POS, sales material and staff knowledge are up to date
  • Working with the AMS mission statement and values to operate a successful department
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications and Experience

  • Previous food service supervisory experience advantageous
  • Minimum Food Safe level 1 certification or higher
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to lift up to 12 kgs (26.4lbs)
  • Ability to do shift work morning & evening
  • Good computer skills with knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word & Excel)
  • Language: Required to speak, read and write English
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Natural leadership qualities that can be developed on the job.
  • Experience working with youth an asset
