Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Supervisor, Hydro Group directs and monitors the daily activities of the Electrical Engineering Technologists & Utility Operators in the Systems Control Centre. The incumbent assists with the planning of work, implements identified efficiencies, ensures that employees have the appropriate tools and equipment to perform work and oversees the safe and reliable operation of the distribution system. They will ensure that work is completed accurately and on time.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Foster creativity and innovation, actively look for new ideas and technology to improve System Control Center and Electrical Engineering Technologists.
- Intermediate MS Office skills, basic use of financial management system software
- Advanced planning skills and the ability to prioritize work
- Ability to have difficult conversations and hold people accountable
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrates strong leadership skills by empowering staff.
Knowledge:
Advanced knowledge of Utility Work Protection Code, Electrical Utility Safety Rules, Ontario Electrical Safety Code & Reg. 22/04
- Advanced knowledge of industry material, tools and equipment
- Advanced knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individuals, the organization and operational requirements
- Knowledge of overhead & underground electrical construction & maintenance, substation construction & maintenance and protection schemes.
- Knowledge of reading and understanding of electrical drawings, feeder/operating prints and schematics
EXPERIENCE:
- Professional Engineer or Certified Engineering Technologist (CET)
- 6-8 years’ experience of design experience in the Electrical utility sector
- Supervisory experience in a unionized setting is an asset
- Class G drivers’ licence

Responsibilities:
- Direct and monitor the daily activities of Electrical Engineering Technologists & Utility Operators.
- Audit work and processes to ensure compliance to regulatory requirements, legislation and best practices.
- Understand all the different software requirements for both System Control Center & Electrical Engineering Technologists.
- Assist in coordinating with various groups to communicate changes to the work plan.
- Support the re-scheduling of planned work, access resources and assist with the restoration of unplanned events and respond to data information requests.
- Support restoration planning for outages and power system emergencies.
- Monitor actual spending to confirm tracking accurately and in line with budgets and assist with making related decisions.
- Distribute assignments and confirm they are completed on time and within budget.
- Perform audits and ensure appropriate follow up and corrective action is taken.
- Work with other departments to ensure requests are being completed on time
- Identify operational requirements and direct crews to complete planned and unplanned work.
- Foster engagement and a positive work environment and ensure transparency and consistency.
- Review 3rd party estimates for capital work projects.
- Complete purchase requisitions for materials and tools required to complete projects.
- Complete scheduling, monitor time tracking for accuracy
- Engage in the recruitment of staff, establish performance objectives and provide regular performance feedback.
- Confirm training is up to date and maintained for both groups
