Description:
HOW DO I QUALIFY?
You have a secondary school education coupled with experience on bus or heavy truck equipment. Your education is augmented by progressively responsible positions that have resulted in outstanding leadership complemented by a highly developed understanding of transit systems, municipal government, and service delivery.
In addition, you must have a valid:
- Truck & Coach Technician license; (310 T)
- Automotive Service Technician license; (310 S)
- ODP (Ozone Depletion Prevention) card and air conditioning experience;
- Unrestricted Class A, B, or C Ontario driver’s license with a Z air brake endorsement and a driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving behaviour.
Note: Applicants with 6 or more points are ineligible for consideration. The successful applicant will be required to provide the Corporation with a current drivers abstract (no older than 30 days) prior to assuming the position.
Successful candidates, who are new hires and/or who have not performed in this position previously will be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check dated within the last 30 days as a condition of employment.

CORE KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED FOR SUCCESS:
- You are an experienced leader with a comprehensive knowledge of:
- Current and future policies, practices, trends, technology and information relating to safety practices/regulations, and transit maintenance operations including scheduling, maintenance, emergency operating procedures coupled with knowledge of transit regulations, town policies and procedures, collective agreement provisions and other relevant guidelines and processes that apply to Transit services.
- Occupational Health and Safety and Highway Traffic Acts, Human Rights Code, regulations and directives as these apply;
- Common word processing, spreadsheet, email and database management techniques.
Responsibilities:
As the Supervisor, Maintenance you will:
- Supervise and assign work carried out by the licensed technicians, servicepersons, technical stores representatives, and utility servicepersons to ensure it is performed effectively, efficiently and in accordance with town or departmental standards. Maintaining levels of service and ensuring specifications, policies, procedures and legislated requirements are being met;
- Select, motivate, train, coach, manage and evaluate staff, and schedule work according to priorities;
- Review employee performance on a regular basis and take corrective/disciplinary action, as required;
- Track, report, record and document all purchasing of parts, fuel, and related items to maintain the fleet;
- Assist Manager of Fleet and Maintenance, in the annual development of tender specifications, cost estimates and budgets for Oakville Transit’s Fleet and Maintenance business unit;
- Train and instruct new and existing workers to perform job functions properly and safely including safe and proper use of tools and equipment;
- With the assistance of the Manager of Fleet and Maintenance, approve shifts, vacations and overtime for supervised staff;
- Liaison with the Facility Supervisor to ensure all environmental controls and building equipment in the Transit facility are functioning and are properly maintained, also ensuring that all building codes and requirements under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Ministry of Transportation are met;
- Open and close work orders, process purchases and contractual invoices using JD Edwards Computer software; creating, processing and receiving purchase orders.
- Additional duties include researching products, assisting with the development of specifications related to vehicle acquisitions, and actively participating with the Transit management team;
- Schedule is on a shift basis. Primary function is weekend and week day afternoon coverage.
