Description:

If you answered yes, then this may be the job for you! Our Chalk River location is looking for a Supervisor to provide OSH(Occupational Health and Safety) expertise, leadership, and supervisory oversight to support ERM OSH staff in the safe execution of work the development, implementation, and oversight of programs/policies. .

What will you be doing!

  • Supervising, mentoring and coaching assigned OSH/IH staff including setting goals and objectives and conducting performance assessments.
  • Providing OSH/IH leadership oversight of work to ensure we are following OSH/IH obligations and work specific documents and procedures.
  • Participating in ERM operational meetings to provide OSH support in planning and execution of activities.
  • Assisting in the coaching, mentoring and implementation of the programs in the field by assisting project teams as needed through coaching, mentoring, and relationship building. Providing OSH/IH support to the project by maintaining a visible presence to the field and performing site visits to the entire project.
  • Lead coaching, mentoring and implementation of the OSH program in the field assisting staff as needed through coaching, mentoring, and relationship building.
  • Regularly reviewing and being familiar with all applicable legislation and applicable standards, to ensure compliance.
  • Developing and maintaining health and safety improvement plans to protect employees, contractors, visitors, and the community.
  • Completing compliance monitoring on OSH/IH related project activities against CNL programs, plans and procedural requirements through formal and informal oversight inspection and assessments. Completing field observations to identify and follow up on non-compliance, areas for improvement and other such gaps related applicable laws, regulations, contract commitments and CNL internal corporate requirements.
  • Providing guidance and support in the development, review, implementation and monitoring of task and project specific OSH/IH programs, work-plans, risk registers, and management system components.
  • Fostering and promoting the reporting of hazards and pause/stop-work scenarios where appropriate and promote safety culture excellence by being a role model in setting the safety standard on site.
  • Coaching, mentoring and interacting with colleagues, CNL project team members, site superintendents, supervisors, contractors, and other parties involved in work activities to help deliver the safe execution of work.
  • Providing timely customer service with credible and expert responses.
  • Investigating and following up on observations, incidents, or any other gaps identified.
  • Preparing reports and following up on recommended corrective actions associated with compliance and oversight reports, incident reports, observations, and investigations.
  • Utilizing subject matter experts to complete risk assessments, hazard assessments, and in the development of safety work procedures in support of CNL’s Integrated Work Control program and Engineering Change Control programs when required.
  • Participating and maintaining all CNL OSH/IH operational training.
  • Undertaking and successfully completing formal and on-the-job CNL Radiation Protection training relevant to this position.
  • Identifying and reporting any safety hazards; wearing all safety equipment related to the position and participating in all safety- raining offered.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

  • Work extended hours and off normal work shifts.
  • Experience:
  • More than 6 years of OSH/IH experience in an equivalent role within complex nuclear, research & technology, heavy construction project, heavy manufacturing, industrial processing, mining, oil & gas, or other civil or environmental remediation experience. Experience within a radiation safety and/or protection setting is an asset but not required.
  • 3-5 years of leadership experience with demonstrated effective team and project management leadership skills.
  • Bilingual in French and English a benefit but not essential.
  • Extensive technical & practical OSH/IH knowledge.
  • Foundational knowledge in industrial hygiene in areas such as Asbestos, Silica, WHMIS, noise, heat-stress, confined space entry, and personal protective equipment and clothing (PPE&C).
  • Detailed practical knowledge of provincial and federal OSH/IH legislative requirements, compliance frameworks, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Experience with the completion of OSH/IH risk registers, hazard assessments, JHA/JSA, and working with behavior-based safety programs.
  • Education:
  • University, college, or a professional degree in a field relevant to the position (e.g., Safety, sciences, engineering)
  • Professional credentials as a CRSP or equivalent recognized designations like the CSP or CMIOSH or relevant experience.
  • Development training and education in management and leadership.
  • Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to be physically active (standing, walking) for up to 12 hrs a day. Able to manage stairs, ladders, and other egress equipment to enter all site and building areas including confined space.
  • Ability to use personal protective equipment including a respirator.
  • Extensive walking on uneven terrain in all weather conditions.
  • Combination of office based and field level work, including work outdoors in inclement weather and a range of temperatures.
  • Prolonged periods of office work when preparing reports and other documents.
  • Operational and decommissioning environments - i.e., laboratories, workshops, confined spaces, heights, etc., laboratory settings, offices, construction sites, open fields, and possible wildlife exposure.
  • May be required to perform overtime.
  • Work in radiologically active environments.
  • Field work is a cornerstone activity in this role.
  • This role may have occasional travel.
