Description:
About the role:
At DMCL, our public company audit team (PUBCO) is full of people obsessed with details. They work diligently to stay on the forefront of constantly changing regulatory standards, while examining our clients’ finances with a keen eye. Thanks to their hard work, our PUBCO team is able to provide both our clients and the public with assurance that the company’s financial statements can be relied upon.
Supervisors in our PUBCO team work closely with Managers and Partners, depending on the project. They serve as role models for junior staff and senior staff, helping them grow professionally, ensuring quality work, and maintaining high ethical standards. Supervisors handle planning, fieldwork, and overseeing team members. They also perform file review and wrap up engagements before they get a final review from a Manager or Partner.
How you’ll make a difference:
- Oversee and complete medium-complexity audit engagements from start to finish with minimal supervision, as guided by the engagement Partner or Manager.
- For less complex engagements, assume responsibilities akin to those of an engagement manager, with support from the engagement partner.
- Acquire proficiency in the technical skills required for complex audit engagements.
- Possess a thorough knowledge of the client and their business.
- Prepare and present agendas for audit planning meetings.
- Prepare and monitor engagement budgets, alerting partners and managers to any concerns, and ensure audit workpapers and financial statements are completed to professional standards.
- Ensure compliance with DMCL’s audit methodology, Quality Control Policies and Procedures, and professional standards.
- Supervise and mentor staff, ensuring high-quality work and providing timely feedback on performance.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, managing information flow, resolving queries, and ensuring exceptional service.
- Seek professional development opportunities, participate in networking events, and assist with performance reviews and other projects as needed.
Who you are:
- 3+ years’ experience in public practice, specifically in audit/assurance
- CPA/CA designation or reciprocal designation recognized by CPA Canada
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and Canadian auditing standards
- Intermediate to advanced skills in CaseWare, CaseView, TaxPrep, TaxPrep Forms, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe Acrobat
- Knowledge of QuickBooks, Sage 50, and/or Simply Accounting
- Proven success in leading high-performance teams, achieving results through others, and being a strong team player.
- Demonstrates exceptional client service by ensuring compliance with professional and Firm standards, responding promptly to client inquiries, and communicating expectations for “prepared-by-client” information to management.
- Exceptional researching and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively, displaying professionalism with clients and staff. Proactive and independent work ethic, strong time management, adaptability to fast-paced environments, and advanced knowledge of accounting and assurance standards.
- Committed to continuous professional development and self-learning.
What DMCL offers:
- A competitive salary and full benefits package.
- A standard 35-hour work week (core hours between 9am - 3pm)
- A defined pathway to career progression at DMCL
- Paid overtime or time off in lieu of overtime for all
- Flexible time to use throughout the year (equivalent to 12 additional days off on top of vacation);
- Mental and physical wellness annual allowance
- Policy for Additional Time Meal Allowance: If you work beyond 10 hours, your dinner expenses are covered by us as per our policy.
