Position Title: Supervisor, YMCA Healthy Heart
Location: Admin Office is located in New Westminster, and some work may be done from home. Weekly classes are held in various locations throughout the Lower Mainland (Coquitlam, Port Moody and Surrey)
Terms: Permanent, Full-time
Start Date: As soon as possible
Hours: 35 hours per week
Salary: $58,500.00 - $60,000.00 per annum
Reports to: Manager, YMCA Healthy Heart

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physiology or Human Kinetics required as well as Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) certification from the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) or the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)
  • Minimum one-two years’ experience working in a program leadership/supervisory role
  • Minimum one–two years related clinical experience in a similar program setting
  • Experience working with older adults and/or chronic disease populations preferred
  • Personal training and/or group fitness leader certification is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, team and relationship-building skills
  • Proficient computer skills (especially Office 365)
  • Valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle required as the Supervisor needs to travel between class locations, the office, etc. (Mileage is paid)
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C & AED certificate (can be completed once hired)
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date

Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall leadership and oversight to the development and delivery of the YMCA’s cardiac rehabilitation, prevention and maintenance exercise program
  • Monitor, evaluate and further enhance existing program standards, on an ongoing basis, ensuring that program design and delivery is in keeping with the latest cardiac rehabilitation best practices and is delivering the best outcomes for program participants
  • Assist Manager with the recruitment and onboarding of program staff and volunteers, and provide overall leadership, as well as ongoing training, supervision, mentoring and development to the staff and volunteer team
  • Lead and/or monitor in-person and virtual exercise classes for individuals with known heart disease and other chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, and congestive heart failure.
  • On an ongoing basis, assess participants’ exercise capacity and provide exercise prescription and recommendations
  • Provide health education to participants and address any questions or concerns as it relates to their exercise prescription
  • Respond to medical emergencies and follow medical emergency protocols
  • Oversee staff scheduling to ensure adequate coverage of all classes, and provide back-up coverage in classes when required
  • Ensure the health and safety of all participants, staff, volunteers and property by following YMCA standards, policies, and procedures and ensuring they are adhered to by all program participants, volunteers and staff
  • Manage inventory of program supplies and medical/exercise equipment
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with community partners, YMCA colleagues and program participants
  • Assist with program office admin functions as needed
