Description:

In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to make an exceptional impact on our supplier network and ensure the flawless quality of materials furnished by our supply chain partners. As a Supplier Quality Engineer at Emerson, you will play a crucial role in establishing and maintaining world-class quality management processes and systems for our suppliers.

Responsibilities:

IN THIS ROLE, YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE:

Supplier Evaluation and Selection:

  • Collaborate with our procurement team to assess and choose new suppliers based on their abilities in managing quality, their strengths, and their track record of success.
  • Conduct comprehensive on-site supplier audits to evaluate their manufacturing processes, quality control systems, and commitment to industry standards.

Supplier Performance Monitoring:

  • Track and analyze important factors that measure supplier performance, such as delivery reliability, product quality, and responsiveness.
  • Review suppliers’ own internal metrics affecting our materials to identify additional improvement opportunities.
  • Regularly assess supplier performance and offer constructive feedback, highlighting opportunities for improvement and suggesting corrective measures.

Root Cause Analysis and Problem Resolution:

  • Work closely with suppliers and internal teams to lead investigations that result in prompt resolution of quality issues. This includes conducting root cause analysis and developing permanent corrective actions.
  • Follow up on supplier-issued Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) to ensure problem identification, resolution implementation, and validation.

Supplier Collaboration and Relationship Management:

  • Foster strong partnerships with our suppliers, promoting open communication, trust, and collaboration to achieve shared quality objectives.
  • Serve as the main contact for all supplier quality-related issues, ensuring clear communication, involving relevant parties, and resolving them promptly.
  • Perform and document joint technical reviews with suppliers in support of ‘Design For Manufacturing’ (DFM) initiatives.
  • Lead internal investigations on supplier requested material modifications, addressing material cost, lead-time, and complexity reduction.

Supplier Development and Improvement:

  • Collaborate with suppliers to drive continuous improvement initiatives, such as process optimization, defect reduction, and waste elimination.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to suppliers by addressing quality and processing issues and implementing effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Demonstrate your ability to successfully implement supplier material production start-ups and process validations.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare regular reports on supplier quality metrics, trends, and improvement progress for management review.
  • Manage our supplier Quality Management System (QMS) re-certification program and communicate results to commodity team leaders and management.

FOR THIS ROLE, YOU WILL NEED:

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field and 3 to 5 years of experience.
  • Strong knowledge of quality control methodologies, supplier quality management systems, and industry standards such as ISO 9001 and AS9100.
  • Experience in supplier quality management, leading supplier audits, and supplier development.
  • Proficiency in conducting root cause analysis, implementing corrective actions, validation, and driving team-based continuous improvement.
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills, as you will be speaking on a variety of technical and business topics to suppliers.
  • The ability to apply analytical and problem-solving skills, interpret data, and make fact-based decisions.
  • Excellent interpersonal, articulation, and communication skills to effectively collaborate with suppliers and individuals within the organization.
  • Attention to detail with a focus on accuracy, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis tools and the ability to use data for process and capability improvement. Knowledge of quality management software is a plus.
  • Professional certifications related to quality management, such as ASQ Certified Quality Engineer, are advantageous.
  • Expect travel of 30% - 40% for this role.
