Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role will involve working with Aboriginal people who have lived experience of trauma and requires an understanding of both the principles of cultural safety, and the gravity of this reform for impacted Aboriginal Victorians. The role requires resilience, empathy, and adaptability and may involve dealing with material that can be challenging and distressing.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Answer calls to the Stolen Generations Reparations package phone service and email service. This includes providing timely and accurate responses to questions about eligibility to the Package and explaining how the process will work.
  • Provide trauma-informed support to applicants of the Package, building safety and trust throughout the process, including assistance to complete applications.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal community, society and culture and the issues impacting on these.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with the Victorian Aboriginal community.
  • Demonstrated experience in applying trauma-informed approaches to providing support services or capacity to rapidly acquire and apply knowledge.
  • Experience in managing a complex workload applying strong organisational skills
