POSITION SUMMARY
The Support Services Supervisor provides person centered care to residents to promote the comfort, safety, and quality of life of the residents of Finlandia Nursing Home/Finlandia Village. The position is responsible to the Director of Support Services of Finlandia Village for the daily operations of the Food Service and Housekeeping Department.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Successful completion of Nutrition Manager diploma or equivalent work experience in the culinary management
- Membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management
- Finnish speaking skill is considered an asset
- An acceptable Police Vulnerable Sector Check verified within the past six months
- 2-step TB test within the past six months
EXPERIENCE
- Experience in institutional food service an asset
KNOWLEDGE
- Ability to read, write and understand oral and written instructions
- Ability to read and interpret manuals related to equipment and systems
- Must have knowledge of current Food Service procedures and best practices
- Must have knowledge of safety rules and procedures and legislation pertaining to food service operations
- Must have knowledge of commercial equipment, chemicals, and WHMIS legislation

Responsibilities:
- Maintains a working knowledge of the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 and the Food Premises Regulation of the Health Protection and Promotion Act
- Responsible for menu and production updates and distribution
- Responsible for the management of food and housekeeping budget, costs, purchasing, ordering and inventory
- Monitors and audits food service and housekeeping areas regularly
- Designs procedures for quality control for minimizing food waste/productivity and maintaining preparation standards
- Conducts inspections of work areas, equipment, and evaluations of the facility to ensure compliance with the requirements of all applicable policies & procedures, rules, standards and/or health, sanitation and safety laws
- Monitors the Food Service and housekeeping schedules and assists in the procedures for shift replacement and shift replacement when needed.
- Investigates complaints regarding food service, housekeeping & equipment, and assist the Director of Support Services of any corrective action plans
- Assists the Director of Support Services in developing and maintaining educational and re-instructional programs as well as job routines
- Supports the Director of Support Services in managing employee relations, including recruiting, onboarding, and training new employees. It involves overseeing performance evaluations, coaching, attendance management, and discipline, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and employment agreements.
- Provides general supervision of the dietary and housekeeping operations when the Director of Support Services is absent
- Works closely with the Director of Dietary Services, in monitoring infection control, safety, and sanitation programs also replaces Food Service Supervisor when absent
- Participates in resident care conferences and other committee meetings as required
- Develops and maintains a thorough working knowledge of the Finlandia Village Health and Safety Manual and associated Provincial Legislation. Performs Health and Safety inspections and investigations as required
- Develops and maintains a thorough working knowledge of the Finlandia Village Health and Safety Manual, Resident Safety Policies and associated Provincial Legislation
- Performs other related duties as required
