Why this role matters
The Salvation Army Australia’s Homelessness Stream provides high quality, person-centred services to people at risk, and or experiencing homelessness. We support adults and families, including accompanying children with accommodation, case management, outreach support, financial assistance, connection and referral to other specialist services.
About the role
The Salvation Army’s Murrumbidgee Accommodation and Housing Services adopt a person-centred, safe & coordinated “No Wrong Door” approach to homelessness service delivery to ensure the best outcome for all who seek our assistance. This is a specialist homelessness service working within the ‘Going Home Staying Home’ reforms under the NSW Department of Family and Community Services.
We are seeking a values-driven and dedicated Support worker reporting to the Program Manager. You will provide support to all cohorts experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
This is a permanent part-time (22.8 hours a week) position based in will be based at the offices of Griffith, with travel to Leeton and Narrandera, NSW.
You will successfully
- Perform role in alignment with national and state strategic plans, and the National Homelessness Stream Model of Care.
- Work in accordance with Trauma Informed Care principles; Our No Wrong Door Policy; TSA’s Mission, Vision & Values; and TSA’s policies, processes, procedures at all times
- Work alongside Case Management Team to identify, action and respond to client needs as require.
- Support clients to build upon their living skills and engage in capacity building.
- Create a safe space for anyone that presents seeking support/ assistance.
- Communicate in an effective manner with all relevant team members i.e. timely completion of case notes, appropriately updating Case Managers regarding case plan progress
- Engage with clients onsite and offsite within the Trauma Informed Framework and participate in the Intake and Assessment process as required within TSA guidelines.
- Work collaboratively and professionally with other agencies as required
- Complete reports for incidents, near misses and following policies and procedures to address potential high-risk situations and other work hazards (per TSA guidelines)
- Support with administrative and reception duties, including the collection and distribution of food hampers as required
- Support with booking client appointments, creating client profiles, organising intake and assessment bookings.
- Conducting OH&S monthly inspections on TSA properties, or as required, including general cleaning and maintenance of properties where necessary.
- Identify service gaps and risks, make recommendations for service delivery to the Leadership Team
- Participate in ongoing professional and skill development to enhance service delivery and practice
- Keep up to date with all mandatory learning modules within required timeframes
- Contribute to a workplace environment which supports peers, develops teamwork and ensures the provision of quality services for TSA clients
You will have
- Minimum Cert IV in Community Services (or relevant field) required
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Understanding of Trauma Informed Care Framework is desirable
- Current NSW Working With Children Check
- Current NSW Driver’s Licence
- A willingness to undergo a National Police Check
