Description:

Reporting to the Manager of Community & Family Programs, the Supported Volunteer Worker is responsible for assisting adults with developmental disabilities in the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows area to move toward independence by providing training and support services as designated by Community Living British Columbia.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

· Participates in the assessment, goal setting and volunteer opportunities for individuals with development disabilities. Documents and implements the volunteer opportunity and provides input into the evaluation to the Manager.
· Receive and assess referrals from Community Living British Columbia and seek to match the referral with a volunteer opportunity within the community.
· Assists clients to function more independently within their volunteer role. Teaches and assists clients with activities pertaining to the volunteer assignment.
· Recognizes, analyzes and deals with potential emergency situations such as aggressive behaviour to minimize potential harm to the client and/or others. Reports problems to the Manager.
· Reviews and evaluates clients’ progress and makes adjustments to the volunteer assignment as required. Provides feedback, coaching and support to the clients and/or their families.
· Provides reports regarding clients’ daily activities and progress. Ensures that all required documentation is complete and accurate.
· Ensure the confidentiality of all information and materials relating to all clients, personnel, volunteers and business of Community Services.
· Ensure that clients are treated respectfully and appropriately acknowledged for their contributions
· Maintain client records in accordance with Agency standards.
· Ensure the confidentiality of all information and materials relating to all clients, personnel, volunteers and business of Community Services.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

· Knowledge of community agencies, resources and support services, in order to aggressively access
resources needed.
· Ability to accurately record and report detail for client files and other related documents.
· Ability to efficiently and effectively manage time, energy and stress levels.
· Possess strong computer skills including but not limited to word processing, client database, email, and spreadsheets.
· Possess interpersonal and problem-solving skills meeting the level of challenged individuals.
· Ability to communicate effectively with individuals with disabilities.
· Possess a dedicated attitude towards the rights of individuals with disabilities.
· Knowledge and understanding of socio-economic and cultural background of each client.
· Possess awareness of the variety of challenges and levels of persons with disabilities that could be referred to this program.
· Knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement philosophy
· Ability to empower others
· Ability to establish a respectful relationship with persons served to help gain skills and confidence.
· Ability to work collaboratively with other personnel and/or providers or professionals.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

· Diploma in a related human / social service field
· One (1) year recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Clear Criminal Record Check is required.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  • Valid and unrestricted Class 5 BC Driver’s License with access to a safe and reliable vehicle.
  • Clear Driver’s Abstract (provided annually).
  • Position requires Union Membership.
    Shift/Schedule/Hours per week: 10 hours per week through to September 30, 2025
    Expected Start Date: ASAP
    Wage/Salary: starting at $27.54/hour
    Grid Level: 11
