Job Title: Surgery Coordinator for Southern Ortho & Sports Medicine
General Summary: Responsible for all aspects of the surgery process, including verifying insurance, obtaining pre-operative certifications and authorizations, completing necessary hospital forms, scheduling patients for pre-operative labs and testing, and coordinating post-surgery care.

Responsibilities:

  1. Support the mission and objectives of the practice.
  2. Comply with HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality.
  3. Be knowledgeable about compliance responsibilities; adhere to federal and state laws, regulations, and organizational policies; and report compliance issues promptly.
  4. Triage surgical candidates as required by physicians.
  5. Collaborate with hospital personnel to gather information necessary for surgery scheduling.
  6. Educate patients about planned surgeries.
  7. Verify insurance information in the electronic system.
  8. Obtain insurance authorizations as required by individual plans prior to surgery.
  9. Work with surgeons to obtain medical clearances and preoperative testing as required by hospital protocols.
  10. Confirm and reschedule return appointments as necessary.
  11. Provide assistance to administrative or clinical staff as needed.
  12. Notify the manager of any patient account and insurance issues.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.
    Education: High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program preferred.
    Certification: CMA and CPR certifications required.
    Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a physician office with previous surgery scheduling experience strongly preferred.
