Description:

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Joondalup Health Campus is pleased to offer a 12 month Fellowship in Bariatric Surgery commencing in February 2025.
As the only position in Western Australia endorsed by ANZMOSS, it offers an outstanding opportunity to develop skills in all facets of bariatric and upper gastro-intestinal surgery (benign upper gastro-intestinal and malignant gastric surgery) with a substantial clinical workload in operating sessions, post-operative ward care, acute general surgery and multi-disciplinary meetings.
The Fellowship offers training and experience primarily in bariatric surgery focusing on minimally invasive techniques. The Fellow will have significant exposure to sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass (both one anastomosis and Roux en Y) and revisional surgery. It is expected that the Fellow will be involved in all bariatric and upper gastro-intestinal emergencies. There is also opportunity for the Fellow to have exposure to some endoscopic intervention in addition to regular endoscopy.
There will be an on-call commitment for General Surgery (1 in 5 currently). The Fellow will work under the supervision of four specialist surgeons and assist with private surgical operations. The Fellow is expected to be involved in teaching and supervising of registrars, junior medical officers and medical students. The Fellowship holder will also be expected to participate in clinical/collaborative research and quality improvement programs.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

Applicants should hold a FRACS, be eligible for registration with the AHPRA, have recently completed advanced training in general surgery, and be seeking further experience in bariatric and upper gastro-intestinal surgery.
You will require personal medical indemnity for private assisting, but Ramsay Health Care will offer employer indemnity for public patients. Ramsay Health will pay a base retainer to the Fellow, and income will be supplemented by private surgical assisting, which the applicant can retain in total.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must provide a National Police check conducted within the previous 12 months
  • According to the role, Ramsay may require a Working-With-Children check and proof of immunisation against infectious diseases, which may include Covid-19.
