  • Associate’s degree in a laboratory science AND 2 years of hospital laboratory experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in biology or related health sciences required AND 1 year of hospital laboratory experience, preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Examine surgical biopsy specimens and provide gross descriptions following Surgical Pathology Manual.
  • Provide accurate gross descriptions of surgical specimens in case reports.
  • Perform special specimen handling (radiography, photography, etc.).
  • File, retrieve, and maintain surgical and autopsy materials records.
  • Maintain equipment record logs.
  • Replenish physicians’ office supplies.
  • Ensure proper operation, repair, and preventive maintenance of equipment and tools.
  • Verify patient identification on specimen requisitions and containers.
  • Correlate patient history with specimen type and consult clinicians for conflicts.
  • Utilize voice recognition software for specimen documentation.
  • Receive, sort, and verify patient identifiers with barcoded labels.
  • Handle, store, and dispose of surgical and autopsy tissue adhering to safety standards.
  • Document discrepancies and resolutions in APLIS.
  • Perform clerical and computer entry functions for supply ordering and maintenance.
  • Attend required in-services, lectures, and training classes.
  • Receive and accession specimens in LIS.
