Description:

The Sustainability role offers an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join the Estates Team at Alder Hey. The post holder will support the development and delivery of the Environment Strategy and action plan, leading on key aspects including the implementation of an organisation-wide Environmental Management System, functioning as a specialist on all mandatory and legal environmental requirements. They will be forward thinking, able to assess potential legal risks and problems, making sound judgments around issues that may have an adverse effect on the business from environment and sustainability perspectives. The post holder will work alongside multiple teams across the site to drive environmental improvements, including alongside our Estates team to design and oversee the organisation’s carbon management plan. They will have excellent communication skills and the ability to establish a maintain good working relationships with others. As a key member of the Estates Team, they will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills to support quantify and report on our environmental impacts to various stakeholders.

  • To deliver Greener NHS programme data projects related to delivery of the NHS Long Term Plan and Delivering a Net Zero National Health System report commitments.
  • To ensure that quality and outcomes are the focus of all data and analytics work undertaken.
  • Working flexibly across the Greener NHS programme projects to deliver collective requirements.
  • Support the Chief Operating Officer in the development and delivery of the NHSBSA environment strategy, which is aligned to the broader business strategy and corporate goals. Contribute to the creation of and support the delivery of an Environment Action Plan across all aspects of Environment and Sustainability.
  • Work in partnership with the Estates’ Senior Management Team, design and oversee the organisation’s carbon management plan, providing a roadmap to Net Zero. Work alongside relevant senior managers, support the development and implementation of a programme of works aimed at decarbonising NHSBSA Estate and Operations, and develop an approach for quantifying benefits and monitoring impact.

  • Implementation and development of the NHSBSA’s Environmental Management System (EMS), ensuring its continued alignment and external accreditation to ISO14001, integrating all aspects of the organisation’s environment and sustainability agenda. Ensure adherence to all statutory and mandatory environmental requirements, leveraging best practice, with systems in place to ensure suitability, adequacy and effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, government mandate and procedures, providing technical expertise on Environmental Compliance matters and best practices. Ensure that robust arrangements are in place to withstand scrutiny by relevant audit or inspection bodies.
  • Develop and implement environment and sustainability policies, procedures, guidance and systems consistent with legal requirements, government mandates, best practices and the wider business strategies. Working with a diverse range of teams including Estates, Operations, Commercial and other NHSBSA Colleagues to explain, raise awareness and ensure correct procedures are followed.
  • Oversee the organisation’s reporting regimes, ensuring data sets are created and maintained in line with legal requirements, corporate environment targets, HM Treasury Annual Report requirements, Greening Government Commitments (and subsequent commitments), Sustainable Technology Annual Reports and certification requirements; ensuring reports are collated and submitted accurately and on-time.
