The University of Calgary’s Master of Science in Sustainable Energy Development (SEDV) is a multidisciplinary offering of the School of Public Policy in collaboration with the Schulich School of Engineering, the Haskayne School of Business, the Faculty of Law, and the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape. This interdisciplinary, comprehensive graduate program provides a holistic approach to energy and environmental management through a cross section of courses taught by faculty from across the university.
The SEDV Program Graduate Program invites applications for sessional instructor appointments to teach the following courses:
Fall 2025
SEDV 640 - Capstone Project I: Research Design
This seminar/course (part 1 of 3) is designed to support students through their capstone projects with a focus on identification of potential capstone project research questions that are anchored in energy, environment and one other aspect of the students choice; Development of research designs and skills to determine the feasibility of investigating potential research questions, narrowing options, and advancing the best option into a short proposal.
Winter 2025
SEDV 641 - Capstone Project II: Proposal Development
This seminar/course (part 2 of 3) is designed to support students through their capstone projects with a focus on writing a comprehensive proposal designed to answer a research question. Seeking approval from a supervisor with expertise on the chosen topic, with guidance from the course instructor. Verbally presenting the research question and convincing the audience of its importance. Continuing investigation of the research question with progress reports submitted to both the supervisor and the course instructor.
Spring/Summer 2026
SEDV 642 - Capstone Project III: Research Exploration and Examination
This seminar/course (part 3 of 3) is designed to support students through their capstone projects with a focus on exploring the research question through an in-depth literature review, data collection, and analyses of the aspects of energy, environment, and one other. Completion and submission of a final report, professionally prepared, that explains the investigation and findings. Presentation of findings.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The SEDV Program is seeking a candidate with excellent teaching credentials and a demonstrated background in sustainable energy and environmental issues. Applicants must have a strong commitment to teaching, particularly at the post-graduate level, and ideally hold an earned doctoral degree in an area closely related to the particular course of interest. Previous involvement with the SEDV program is an asset. Applicants must be available for all three courses to be considered.
