Description:
Internal and external candidates will be considered for this vacancy. For the purposes of this vacancy, internal candidates are defined as staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded or ungraded contract, including Junior Professional Officers (JPOs), staff on Special Leave Without Pay (SLWOP), and staff members on secondment/loan released by the Organization, unless otherwise specified in their contract. Staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded contract will not retain their contract type if appointed to an ungraded position.
Context
Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the UN Migration Agency, is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advise to governments and migrants.
IOM Hungary’s Programme Support Unit (PSU) provides cross-cutting support to programme teams across the Country Office, including, but not limited to project development, internal and external reporting, monitoring and evaluation, information management and internal and external communications.
Under the direct supervision of the Programme Support Coordinator and overall supervision of the Head of Office, the Media and Communications Coordinator will support the office’s internal and external communications.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- University degree in Media, Communications, Public Information, International Relations, Journalism, or a related field or a related field from an accredited academic institution with at least 3 years of professional experience.
OR
High School Degree Certificate from an accredited academic institution with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience.

Experience
- Proven, successful experience in using media and social media for advocacy, public information, and furthering understanding and knowledge about an organization and its mandate, preferably with a focus on humanitarian assistance, development and/or migration;
- High level of professionalism and ability to work under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines.
- Experience developing and disseminating digital content for websites for international organizations or non-governmental organizations.
- In depth knowledge of the broad range of migration related subject areas dealt with by the Organization is desirable.
Skills
- Excellent and proven creative writing and editing skills, including the ability to write well under pressure to meet tight deadlines and the ability to write compellingly for different audiences.
- Strong communication and organizational skills;
- High level of computer literacy;
- Familiarity with design and/or editing tools is an advantage.
Languages
- Fluency (oral and written) in Hungarian and English is required.
- Working knowledge of Ukrainian and/or Russian is a strong advantage.
- Any other IOM official language would be considered as advantageous.
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Responsibilities:
Support the management and maintenance of IOM Hungary’s website in accordance with IOM global rules and requirements, ensuring that it represents all areas of work of IOM Hungary in an attractive and accessible way.

- Ensure the production of regular media and social media content; manage IOM Hungary’s presence on different social media platforms (eg. Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram).
- Draft press releases, and produce media briefs and newsletters, as appropriate.
- Assist in the production of information sheets, speeches, newsletters and presentations; draft internal and external information and communication materials and reports.
- Coordinate with external consultants and service providers for the production of various communications materials (eg. graphic design, photograpy, videography).
- Support programme teams in meeting donor visibility requirements.
- Assist in the development and implementation of a media and communication strategy for IOM Hungary, in coordination with the Regional Office.
- Support dealing with requests from the media.
- Monitor local and international media as well as social media for mentions of IOM and content relevant to IOM’s work and mandate in Hungary.
- Support the Country Office’s internal communications activities, contribute to the development and maintenance of its internal communications channels, and facilitate inter-unit communication and cooperation.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
