Description:

Georgia Military College is currently accepting applications to serve as the Senior Vice President, Chief Academic Officer (CAO)of the institution. The CAO provides visionary leadership and guidance in support of the Colleges mission, Presidents vision, and GMCs strategic priorities in all matters relating to Academic Affairs of the college. The CAO serves on the Presidents Board of Directors to help shape the strategic vision of the college and ensure the strategic plan is realized and implemented in all Academic Affairs departments. The CAO develops relationships, partnerships, and agreements with other educational institutions, businesses and industry, and leadership in state and local communities. This position leads three departments all led by Vice Presidents reporting to the SVP, CAO: 1) Office of Academic Policy, Program Development, and Academic Success; 2) The Office of Research, Planning, and Effectiveness, and 3) The Office of Student Services and Records. Additionally, this position supports the Senior Vice Presidents overseeing Operations for the Junior College and Global Online Leadership College.

  • Office of Academic Policy, Program Development, and Academic Success ensures the institution has qualified faculty and quality courses. This department oversees the credentialing guidelines and implements the process for credentialing all faculty. Develops academic policies and viable degree programs and maintains the Academic Affairs Standard Operating Procedures. Establishes the academic calendar for course scheduling for all campuses. Assists the faculty with the curriculum process to improve and develop new degree programs and courses at the associate and bachelors levels. Leads and manages academic support services to include the Library, Teaching and Learning Center, and Academic Success via Starfish.
  • Office of Institutional Research, Program Development, and Effectiveness establishes articulation agreements with businesses and other institutions for transferability to create pathways of opportunity for students, provides useful data to the institution for decision making, meets all federal and state data requirements, leads the process and implementation of the Quality Enhancement Plan, and measures the effectiveness of all administrative units, academic and student support service units, and degree programs to improve their departments as it ties to the strategic plan and budget.
  • Office of Student Services and Records oversees all policies and procedures for the Institutional Dean of Students and Disability Services. Leads the Registrars Office to include transcript evaluation and GMC College Catalog, Admissions, Military and Veteran Transfer equivalencies, Institutional Student Services to oversee clubs, organizations, Honor Council, GMC Student Handbook, and Disability Services.
  • Indirect oversight of faculty: The Vice Presidents of both GMC’s Junior College and Global Online Leadership Collegework closely with the SVP/CAO to operate these locations by implementing all academic policies and procedures, hiring and managing the faculty in coordination with Human Resources, ensuring that professional development is provided to administrators and hosting faculty professional development. Manages student and academic support services. Assesses the need for faculty and monitors faculty course load.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve on President’s leadership team and provide guidance and recommendations on all College academic matters and contribute to non-academic matters when requested. Assist with budgetary planning for the institution and strategic planning.
  • Provides vision for Academic Affairs, participates in the Presidents Strategic Planning, and writes the administrative unit plan for the Academic Affairs planning, assessment, and implementation of an improvement plan to further the institution’s mission, improve student success, create degree programs to attract students, close degree programs that are not fiscally sound, ensure the college follows SACSCOC accreditation, state, and federally mandated policies, create pathways of opportunity for students through articulation agreements and other strategies, and provide leadership.
  • Build and manage the Academic Affairs administration budget with oversight of any grant budgets, QEP budget, etc.
  • Leadership on new academic program development and review of existing programs and courses to ensure viability as well as contributing ideas for the maintenance and development of online courses in support of the colleges mission. Determines which new courses/programs and services the college will pursue based on return on investment. Provide leadership on articulation agreements.
  • Provides leadership for the QEP and works closely with the SACSCOC Institutional Liaison on academic areas to ensure GMCs accreditation. Participates and provides assistance with SACSCOC visits.
  • Oversee the Faculty pay scale and approve all faculty hires; ensure the Junior College and Global Online Leadership College provide professional development to faculty, track faculty complaints, and have a faculty evaluation process and procedures in place for annual evaluations; ensure students evaluate faculty each term.Final approval on all policies and college documents (Academic Affairs Standard Operating Procedures/GMC College Catalog/GMC Student Handbook/GMC Factbook) being revised/updated.
  • Engenders a culture of continual professional development of Academic Affairs and stays current on best practices within higher education through personal professional development.
