We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as an SVP Wholesale Credit Risk
Role Purpose

The purpose of this role is to:

  • Assist the Head of WCR in managing credit assessments/approvals for the Wholesale Banking (WSB) portfolio.
  • Covers the most complex WSB borrowing groups and reviews various urgent transactions thereby requiring comprehensive experience in corporate, project, asset-backed and structured finance across international markets in order to opine/advise on and constructively challenge very large and complex transactions and business initiatives, which require enhanced approval levels.
  • Ability to communicate with a senior audience and understand wider implications of decisions.
  • Ability to exercise credible judgment within a short time frame in high pressure business situations and escalate relevant situations under high volume deal flow.
  • Ensures sound asset quality, as well as a cautious but competitive / constructive credit culture throughout the corporate lending, MSS trading, underwriting, portfolio management.
  • Assist the Head of WCR in managing and developing the Credit Approvals team to ensure sufficient resource with high qualification.

. Principal Accountabilities

Impact on the Business

  • Review and/or decision new, increase, and renewal credit proposals of the Wholesale Banking (WSB) book and ensure that the portfolio is of sound quality
  • Ensure that HSBC operates within the agreed appetite for individual exposures and by relevant cross section within the portfolio (e.g. sector, geography, etc.)
  • Identify deterioration in WSB credits through the Worry Watch Monitor (WWM) process; identify early warning signs / substandard credits / emerging risks and thus keep a sound credit portfolio

Customers / Stakeholders

  • Provide prompt advice and solutions to WSB with the overall objective of promoting safe business growth
  • Primary support for the Head of WCR on portfolio management and policy-making
  • Take lead as WCR Sustainability Risk Champion

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Increase self-productivity and self-effectiveness in order to deliver on objectives / expectations, in line with WSB strategies and the Bank’s broader values
  • Encourage constructive teamwork via collaboration within WCR, within MNL, region, group and with external stakeholders. Challenge actions and behaviors that are not consistent with HSBC’s values and best interests of both internal and external clients
  • Assist the Head of WCR in developing Approver or Portfolio Manager capability and talent, in order to provide succession, ensure delivery of business objectives, and meet required standards

Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Ensure that credit approvals and reviews are completed to the highest standards and in compliance with established policies / procedures, while meeting customer requirements and supporting the Business’ pursuit of strategic objectives
  • Contribute to the processes, infrastructure, and resources needed to achieve agreed team plans and targets; identify and implement improvements, and collaborate with colleagues to maximize end-to-end integration, effectiveness, and efficiency
  • Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including the timely implementation of external audit, internal audit, WCRU action items

Qualifications

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Degree holder in Banking, Finance / Accounting, Business Administration, or related disciplines
  • Established financial and accounting acumen
  • Minimum of 10 years working experience in wholesale credit risk approvals, relationship management, or credit & lending product management
  • Sufficient knowledge of wholesale banking products so as to efficiently analyze the appropriateness of transactions and/or structures in order to properly approve the credit. A strong background in Corporate Banking and Trade Finance and related fields is preferable
  • Ability to exercise credible judgment within a short time frame in high pressure situations
  • Ability to communicate with senior stakeholders and understand wider implications of decisions
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently under pressure
