Description:
THE POSITION
The City of Beaverton is recruiting a Systems Administrator, who will be responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of the municipality’s IT infrastructure, with a focus on the Microsoft server environment, SAN storage, and VMware virtualization technologies. This role ensures the seamless performance of servers, network systems, and critical technologies while managing comprehensive data backup solutions using Veeam.
The Systems Administrator will perform system upgrades, troubleshoot hardware and software issues, and ensure that data is securely backed up and recoverable. This role also involves monitoring system performance, optimizing network infrastructure, and providing technical support to staff. Collaboration with internal teams is crucial to implement IT strategies that align with the municipality’s operational goals and to maintain high availability, security, and disaster recovery preparedness across all systems.
This is a full-time, non-exempt, Management 3 (M3) position. The schedule will be Monday-Friday, with the option of a hybrid work schedule (3 days on-site, 2 days remote each week) following the successful completion of probation. There is one vacancy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s degree in computer science or a related field; and
- Five years’ experience in server/network administration; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.
LICENSING AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet the city’s driving standards.
- Ability to pass reference checks and education verification, and satisfy the requirements of a background check, including fingerprints.
- Ability to satisfy the requirements of a pre-employment drug screen, which includes screening for marijuana.

Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Infrastructure Management team to evaluate performance and program effectiveness, making improvements as needed.
- Perform routine maintenance and upgrades on computer equipment and servers, including server patching, security enhancements, and malware prevention.
- Create and manage project plans, timelines, and resource allocations for assigned tasks and ensure objectives are met.
- Install and test system and application software to maintain reliable operations for end users.
- Assist in the design, selection, and maintenance of hardware infrastructure, and manage IT inventory.
- Manage Active Directory.
- Implement and manage the city’s network systems, including LAN, WAN, mobile devices, and wireless systems. Troubleshoot and resolve common network issues.
- Test and configure communication, network, and computer systems using modern IT practices, ensuring system integrity and reliability.
- Schedule and conduct data backups, ensuring backups are documented clearly and stored securely.
- Create and maintain clear, user-friendly documentation, and provide training to employees on It resources and best practices.
- Help prepare and monitor the section budget.
- Model and coach excellent customer service, promoting professionalism, teamwork, clear communication, and creative problem-solving to enhance the customer experience.
