Thornton Tomasetti is looking to hire an adaptable and widely knowledgeable System Administrator to ensure high levels of availability and security of the supported business applications.
Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
- Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction with end-users and department managers.
Acquisition & Deployment
- Coordinate with network engineering, business application, and database administration functions to implement desktop and server systems that utilize industry best practices to meet corporate objectives.
- Deploy workstations, servers, printers, scanners, firewalls, encryption systems, and all host security systems.
Operational Management
- Manage communications (email, IM, Teams) and connection solutions, including workstation connectivity, local area networks, company web site, intranet, and Internet applications.
- Ensure the integrity and security of enterprise data on host computers, databases, and data in transit in accordance to business needs and industry best practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
- Manage end user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
- Liaison with network technical lead to develop and implement changes and solutions related to LAN/WAN, including best-practice security requirements
- Support hardware and software in both open and secured air gapped environments.
- Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on servers, input/output fleet, and workstations. Escalate incidents as necessary.
- Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
- Analyze system, server, application, network, and input/output device performance and make recommendations for remediation, improvement, or replacement
- Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for system administration and appropriate use.
- Execute and manage IT projects for successful technical performance, timeliness, and budget
Position Requirements
- Degree in computer science or higher
- 10+ years of increasing technical and professional experience in a multi-site organization
- Technical knowledge of PC and server hardware
- Working technical knowledge of PC and server operating systems, including Windows 11, Windows Server. Linux experience would be considered a plus
- Strong working knowledge of networking concepts and infrastructure (switches, routers, firewalls, wireless)
- Experience with data management - SAN/storage, backups, archive.
- Working knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy
- VM/VDI-based infrastructure skills and experience – VMware/ESXi. Experience with Citrix, Azure, or AWS would be considered a plus
- Experience developing and maintaining configuration and process documentation
- Preferred certifications: Microsoft (MSCA and/or MCITP), Network+ certification, Project Management
- Effective interpersonal, relationship-building and written/oral communication skills
