Description:
JOB SUMMARY
The System Nursing Director of Women’s and Children’s services will provide strategic leadership, vision, and oversight of all patient safety initiatives within the service line. The primary responsibility is to ensure the highest standard of safety for women’s and newborn healthcare services, reducing medical errors, adverse events, and preventable harm across the system. This position will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including clinical and administrative leaders, to develop and implement a comprehensive patient safety program in alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:
- Develop, lead, and continuously improve the patient safety strategy for Women’s and Children’s healthcare services.
- Developing service line goals including identifying/setting benchmarks either internally or externally to assist in PI at facility level.
- Monitoring OB system trends in event reporting system.
- Site visit at a minimum of 1 time/ year at local facilities and when emergent needs arise. The leader is not expected to cover leadership vacancies.
- Serve as communication/ liaison among workgroups and system leadership.
- Onboard new perinatal leaders to structure/ resources.
- Collaborate with Informatics to align patient safety practices, evidence-based practice, and documentation options.
- Foster a culture of safety, transparency, and accountability across all Women’s and Children’s departments.
- Participate in the investigation of safety events, including root cause analysis (RCA), sentinel events, and near misses to determine systemic improvements.
- Develop and implement risk reduction strategies based on identified safety gaps.
- Partner with clinical and administrative leaders in nursing, obstetrics, neonatology, pediatrics, and allied health to align patient safety goals.
- Collaborate with quality improvement teams to integrate patient safety efforts into broader clinical and operational improvement programs.
- Function as the system’s subject matter expert in patient safety, providing guidance, training, and education for staff and leadership within Women’s and Children’s services.
- Regularly assess patient safety performance for all Women’s and Children’s care areas and present findings to senior leadership with actionable recommendations for improvement.
- Ensure the healthcare system meets and exceeds all relevant regulatory requirements related to patient safety.
- Stay updated with evolving patient safety regulations and best practices.
- Collaborate with Nursing Professional Development to establish and implement safety training programs for clinical and non-clinical staff to promote awareness and competency in patient safety practices.
- Lead system-wide performance improvement projects aimed at reducing harm and enhancing the safety of care provided.
- Collaborate with quality and process improvement teams to identify high-risk areas and implement corrective actions.
- Possess strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders across the organization.
- Ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
- Strong understanding of patient safety principles and practices in women’s and children’s healthcare.
