Description:

The Systems and Controls Analyst (SCA) primarily supports the maintenance and continuous improvement of the ERP system and all related financial systems for the Seaspan Transportation operating business functions. In this role the SCA supports system redesign and change initiatives, report design and construction, assessment of business needs, system and process control reviews, documenting business requirements, development of process and technical solutions and provides technical support for division specific applications. As a secondary responsibility, the SCA supports the accounting and reporting responsibilities, including month-end close duties and financial/management reporting. This includes month-end entries, account reconciliations, monitoring of accounts, preparing accruals, analysis of results and financial reporting.

Responsibilities:

  • Systems Maintenance, Redesign and Report Development
  • Controls and maintains the GL Chart of Accounts (COA) in the ERP system, including account additions, deletions, and overall security of the COA.
  • Assists in identifying system enhancement opportunities (proactive and reactive), including making appropriate recommendations to process owners.
  • Assists with the creation of business cases related to system enhancement requests as required, including basic financial analysis and modelling.
  • Performs process reviews (including related process and systems controls), gap analysis, and supporting the development and implementation of process improvements. Ensures process documentation is complete and up to date.
  • Updates regularly the Delegation of Financial Authority (DFA) table.
  • Creates and delivers training materials on financial systems, including creation and maintenance of user guides, manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), online user reference sources and other related materials.
  • Finance:
  • Assists with the preparation of month-end operational and financial reports, including account control reconciliations.
  • When required, supports, and assists the Accounting Analysts with the month-end close process.
  • Reviews and optimizes finance processes relating to month-end close, G/L reconciliations, financial reporting, system functionality and utilization.
  • Assists with year-end audit tasks, such as working paper preparation, analytical reviews, external auditor query research, etc.
  • Performs other accounting and financial duties as required.
