Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)
We are looking for a Senior Systems Design Specialist to join our team in Toronto.
The successful candidate will be reporting to the Systems Design Manager or Project Systems Specialist. The incumbent is accountable for performing the design work correctly, within cost and schedule limits, as defined in approved work packages. The System Design Specialist typically works with a team of engineers to define what will be designed, how it will perform and how it will be determined that it is working correctly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Converts customer requirements into conceptual designs and prepares associated documentation by performing operational analyses, simulations and technical trade-off studies evaluating alternative design configurations and functional features
- Creates new concepts or modifies existing concepts to fulfill customer requirements
- Prepares system and subsystem requirement specifications, interface requirements and test requirement documents by analyzing, decomposing, modelling and refining customer requirements and typical train control domain requirements
- Performs technical/engineering tasks to define system design and subsystem requirements details
- Executes analysis and simulations as necessary to identify design feasibility & driving requirements
- Formulates and supports preparation of design and development proposals based on the knowledge of ATC technology, customer requirements and backed by analysis, simulation and trade-off of key design driving requirements
- Organizes specialized ATC system analyses based on multi-discipline engineering skills and knowledge of the ATCS domain
- Accurately reports work progress and estimates to complete against work packages assigned by his/her lead/manager
- Develops, implements and maintains tools relevant to the Systems Engineering function
- Assists in the assessment of relevant tools
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer or System Design Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum of 8 years of systems design experience
- Fluent in English
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience with DOORS
- Project management training/experience
- Takes initiative to find/create solutions Knowledge of specification-driven systems design (as it applies to computer systems with both hardware and software operation)
- Familiarity with modern software development methodology tools and software specification
- Basic mechanical & dynamic motion analysis, reliability engineering, radio communications systems engineering, automatic controls and command engineering
- Model based system engineering experience is an asset
- Experience in the rail industry
