The Boeing Product & Services Safety (P&SS) organization is looking to hire Systems Engineers to join the Enterprise Safety and Mission Assurance Team in Everett, WA. This role will support the Airplane Safety Engineering (ASE) team.
The ASE team, part of the Enterprise Safety and Mission Assurance Organization, engages with airplane programs like the 777-9, 777-8 Freighter, and future developments. We build strong relationships with diverse engineering teams, requiring technical savvy, communication skills, and a passion for learning. Our role spans designing and certifying products, with a relentless focus on compliance, safety, and product integrity without compromise.
As an Aerospace Systems Safety Engineer, you will ensure Single & Multiple Failure (SMF) analyses are properly conducted using airplane-level integration skills. This role demands an understanding of complex integration of airplane systems, human factors, and operational integration. Attention to detail and engineering curiosity are essential as SMF deliverables impact airplane compliance.
Successful candidates will be reliable, trustworthy, and accountable for delivering results. Familiarity with 14 CFR 25.1309, ARP-4754, ARP-4761, safety analysis, and hazard assessments is beneficial. Initiative, leadership in cross-functional teams, and managing complex projects is essential. You will need to take ownership of work activities for accurate, efficient, and timely completion are crucial.
Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including, Associate, Mid-Level and Senior Systems Engineers.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 1+ years of experience in one or more of the following engineering fields: (airplane systems, aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, systems engineering, certification, or safety)
  • 1+ years of engineering process experience with the following airplane programs 737, 737 Max, 747, 767, 777, 777X, 787
  • 1+ years of experience with Systems Engineering & Integration and Airplane Safety
  • 1+ years of experience with commercial airplane certification and safety requirements and procedures
  • 1+ years of experience with Functional Hazard Analysis (FHAs), FMEA’s, Airplane Level Threats (Particular Risk Analyses), Fault Trees, and/or System Safety Assessments (SSAs)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Applied experience with Single & Multiple Failure Analysis or Cascading Effects Analysis
  • Applied experience in Commercial Airplane-Systems design or analysis (e.g. Flight Controls, Hydraulics, Avionics, Fuels, etc.) or Systems Integration
  • Knowledge and understanding of commercial airplane Engine Indication and Crew Alerting System (EICAS).
  • Experience developing/applying aviation-related system safety analysis methods such as System Safety Assessment (SSA), Fault-tree Analysis (FTA) and Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA)
  • Experience showing compliance to 14 CFR 25.1309 and knowledge of industry practices such as ARP 4761 and 4754
  • Knowledge of requirements development for aerospace systems and hardware.
  • FAA pilot certificate/ratings or equivalent aviation experience

TYPICAL EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate (Level 2): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
  • Mid-Level (Level 3): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
  • Senior (Level 4): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years’ related work experience, Master+7 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

PAY IS BASED UPON CANDIDATE EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS, AS WELL AS MARKET AND BUSINESS CONSIDERATIONS.

Summary Pay Range for Associate (Level 2): $87,550 - $118,450
Summary Pay Range for Mid-Level (Level 3): $104,550 - $141,450
Summary Pay Range for Senior (Level 4): $128,350 - $173,650

Responsibilities:

  • Single & Multiple Failure Analysis concentration with correlation to System Safety Assessments, Functional Hazard Analysis and Numerical Probability Analysis (NPA).
  • Analyze the integration of complex airplane systems and corresponding airplane-level effects, failure indications, and flight crew actions, a system of systems analysis.
  • Provide safety design and analysis expertise to program stakeholders and leadership.
  • Apply knowledge and understanding of the requirements and methods for showing compliance to 14 CFR 25.1309.
  • Requirements development for aerospace systems and hardware.
  • Operational and Functional Analysis applied to the development of new aerospace products and systems.
