Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) seeks a Systems Engineer to serve as GPS Navigation Payload Systems Engineer on our team at Schriever Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Once fully trained, you will be the subject matter expert for the Navigation Payload on the GPS Block IIF satellites and for GPS performance trending and analysis and will work closely with the spacecraft bus and secondary payload subject matter experts.
This position is on the Global Positioning System (GPS) sustainment program located at Schriever Space Force Base, about 10 miles east of Colorado Springs, Colorado. GPS is a satellite-based radionavigation system owned by the United States government and operated by the United States Space Force. GPS is the world’s largest military satellite constellation and is the world’s only global utility. It provides position, navigation, and timing data to military and civilian users globally with countless applications and an unlimited number of users.
Boeing has over 45 years of history in GPS, to include achieving full system capability in 1995. The current Boeing GPS sustainment team supports the U.S. Space Force by sustaining and monitoring the health and capabilities of the 12 GPS Block IIF satellites in the GPS constellation launched from 2010 to 2016. The Boeing team also provides support to its U.S. Space Force customer with performance reporting and with expertise on all aspects of the GPS system. Sustainment efforts will continue through the life of the Block IIF satellites, with a design life expectancy of 2028 and beyond.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • Experience in systems engineering.
  • Experience programming with software development and analysis tools such as Python, C#, Groovy, Java, MATLAB, etc.
  • Experience working with relational database management systems such as Exadata, Oracle, Teradata, SQL Server).
  • Ability to obtain TS/SC

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 1+ years of experience with satellite operations.
  • 1+ years of experience with the Global Positioning System (GPS).
  • 1+ years of experience in telemetry analysis and trending.
  • 1+ years of experience in anomaly resolution.
  • 1+ years of experience in Kalman filter analysis.
  • 1+ years of experience in Radio Frequency (RF) systems

Responsibilities:

  • Provide real-time support to on-orbit GPS Navigation Payload and satellite operations including investigation of and resolution of satellite anomalies.
  • Perform GPS Navigation Payload trending and analysis.
  • Evaluate customer operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters, and assure compatibility of all physical, functional, and program interfaces.
  • Perform analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, product assurance, and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.
  • Support the planning, organization, implementation, and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, and opportunity management.
  • Interact daily with the U.S. Space Force’s 2d Space Operations Squadron personnel to work on satellite performance trending and analysis.
    This position is expected to be fully onsite at Schriever SFB, Colorado.
    This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

Associate (level 2): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Mid-level (level 3): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range:
Associate (level 2): 81,600 – 110,400
Mid-level (level 3): 97,750 – 132,250
