Description:

REQUIRED KSA’S:

  • Experience leading system integration activities preferrably with chemical processing systems or biological systems
  • Experience working within integrated product teams
  • Experience developing and integrating subsystem to prototype systems up to TRL7
  • Working knowledge of common engineering software tools (e.g. Solidworks, Labview, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of common engineering hardware tools and techniques
  • Experience developing test beds preferrably with chemical proccessing systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to successfully work within a team environment
  • Working knowledge of software and apps within the Microsoft Office suite

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

BS in Engineering and at least 15 yrs experience; or
MS in Engineering and at least 10 yrs experience; or
PhD in Engineering and at least 7 yrs experience

Responsibilities:

POSITION PURPOSE:

The successful candidate will be based in our Austin, TX facility and will support projects related to defense, forensics, and national security including an exciting new research & development project sponsored by DARPA. The Systems Engineer will provide technical leadership across a multi-organization project team to develop subsystems, integrate subsystems into a prototype reactor system, and perform test and evaluation activites. The candidate must be motivated to contribute in a team environment and collaborate across multiple scientific and technical disciplines. The candidate must have the flexibility to balance multiple on-going tasks while operating efficiently with minimal supervision. As needed, the candidate should be able to direct others to accomplish project tasks. Job functions will include contributing to hardware and software subsytem design, developing prototype system design, integration, and testing plans, and final prototype integration and testing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for technical quality of subsystem and system deliverables
  • Works within an integrated product team (IPT) to achieve project milestones and meet deliverables requirements
  • Provides engineering support for subsystem design
  • Develops system-level technical requirements including assessment of potential hazards
  • Implement a failure modes, effects, and criticality analysis (FMECA) program
  • Lead preliminary design reviews (PDR) and critical design reviews (CDR)
  • Lead system integration and testing activities
  • Work with the Program Manager to manage project schedule, technical scope, and budget
  • Applies good engineering practices to ensure safety and quality
  • Performance of job duties is expected to be completed with minimal direct supervision
  • Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards
  • Creating and evaluating product requirements and design descriptions
  • Perform testing and validation of prototype systems, identifying and resolving any issues

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Minimum direct staff management role but candidate is expected to lead an integrated product team
