Description:
THE OPPORTUNITY:
At Leonardo, we have a fantastic opportunity for a Systems Engineering Lead to join our team within the Customer Support and Service Solutions (CS3) line of business. The CS3 line of business operates across the UK, providing innovative and invaluable support solutions to our customers. We help to ensure the availability of front-line capability wherever and whenever required.
This role will be part of the Major Campaigns team – developing solutions for the next-generation of support and training services, to meet the needs of a variety of customers around the world. You will play a key role in developing and delivering compelling bids to our customers, working across the business winning phase, from early engagement workshops through campaign development to bid submission.
We are looking for someone with a background in systems engineering, who has experience of leading a team and wants to solve new and challenging problems. If you thrive when working in the problem space, are good at balancing stakeholder needs with creating optimal value solutions for both the customer and the business, and have strong engagement and communication skills, then this could be the role for you. In this role you will work closely with the internal Leonardo teams and with external stakeholders, including suppliers and customers, giving you the opportunity to influence and optimise the holistic solution.
Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of the systems engineering work packages within the overall solution development, ensuring they are delivered in accordance with requirements (from both a technical and programme perspective)
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the systems engineering team, including management of the resources, setting clear goals and monitoring performance
- Own the approach to systems engineering within the team, ensuring application of appropriate systems engineering tools / techniques, and documenting these accordingly
- Support the team in eliciting stakeholder needs, identifying and managing requirements and determining a solution, utilising systems engineering expertise
- Ensure robust quality, availability, cost and time trade-offs are undertaken to optimise the solution from both a business and customer perspective
- Lead resource and technical planning activities within the team, working closely with the engineering managers and systems architect to support prioritisation and decision making
- Resolve emerging issues by proposing and driving through solutions, escalating more complex risks and supporting definition of opportunities and risk mitigation options
- Manage and report on progress against cost, schedule, risk and maturity measures
- Manage the team’s workload, and advise on the required size, skills and capability mix to achieve both the short and longer term goals
- Support the engineering lifecycle management process, creating and presenting the required systems engineering artefacts at the formal reviews
- Foster relationships and networks within and outside the line of business, actively seeking out opportunities and promoting a culture for adoption of best practice
- Develop, coach, and mentor more junior engineers, particularly in the application of systems engineering
