It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to broadly provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. With over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services, TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.
The Talent Acquisition Specialist is responsible for sourcing, attracting, and hiring top talent to meet TI’s staffing needs. This position collaborates with hiring managers to understand job requirements, develop effective recruitment strategies, and ensure a positive candidate experience throughout the hiring process. Additionally, the incumbent will utilize various recruitment tools and platforms to identify and engage with potential candidates, maintaining a robust talent pipeline.

Job Responsibilities

  • Partner with hiring managers to drive the end-to-end recruitment process, including sourcing, screening, interviewing, and extending offers.
  • Determines a recruitment approach that integrates TI’s Inuit employment strategies, including target candidates, where to advertise, advertising budget, and recruitment timelines.
  • Utilize creative sourcing techniques, including social media, LinkedIn Recruiter, and employee referral programs, to identify and engage both active and passive candidates.
  • Coach hiring managers on all aspects of the talent acquisition process, ensuring a seamless recruitment experience and informed hiring decisions.
  • Create and implement pre-screening tools, skills assessments, and interview guides to support hiring managers throughout the selection process.
  • Ensure a positive candidate experience by conducting thorough pre-screens, scheduling interviews, and participating in interview panels alongside hiring managers.
  • Provides support to hiring managers in determining qualification equivalencies, drafting job advertisements, screening applicants, chairing the interview panel, assessing applicant suitability in accordance with the position requirements, making recommendations to the hiring manager.
  • Act as an ambassador for the organization’s employer brand, engaging top talent by presenting the company’s unique value proposition.
  • Develop and implement outreach programs, including university/college recruitment initiatives and participation in career fairs and networking events.
  • Establish relationships with schools, alumni groups, and employment equity-related service providers to build diverse candidate pipelines.
  • Provide expertise on creating inclusive job descriptions and postings that appeal to diverse candidates, promoting equal opportunity in hiring.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the applicant tracking system (Ceridian Dayforce), including job postings, candidate data, interview notes, and recruitment reports.
  • Conduct reference checks, prepare offer packages, and facilitate background checks as part of the onboarding process.
  • Facilitate orientation and ensure onboarding of all new hires is completed and in alignment with recruitment priorities and processes, while ensuring a seamless and memorable candidate-to-new-hire experience
  • Participate on workforce planning to anticipate the hiring needs of different programs and create a comprehensive recruitment plan to meet those needs
  • Identifies any issues that may impact TI practices to the hiring Manager and the Director, Human Resources
  • Support other HR activities as required.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have knowledge of Inuit culture, values, traditions, and IQ principles, ability to work effectively with Inuit communities, understanding the historical and social factors that impact Inuit clients.
Strong knowledge of and experience with recruitment-related websites including LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, Charity Village is required. Must possess demonstrated knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply employment legislation (e.g., Employment Standards, Human Rights, Health & Safety, Privacy, Compensation, Labour Relations, etc.), organizational policies, and collective agreements. Experience using behavior-based interview technique is requirement of the position.
Outstanding interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills and a natural ability to build trusting relationships, excellent organizational skills, detailed oriented, multitasking skills to manage various priorities, time management skills, excellent problem-solving and negotiation skills are required. Must have strong data analysis skills to make smarter, bias-free hiring decisions, identify trends, measure the success of different sourcing strategies, and understand candidate behaviors.
Proven ability to adapt and thrive in a fast paced, high growth environment, ability to travel to community organizations, schools, and career fairs for presentations, as required, flexible availability to work overtime if needed.
Completion of an undergraduate degree in Human Resources Management is required or Master’s Degree is preferred. Three plus years’ experience in full-cycle recruiting, using various interview techniques and evaluation methods is required. Two plus years’ experience in proficiently documenting the processes, social media, and professional networks is required. Experience in Dayforce Recruiting Module is preferred.
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneNote), and Dayforce and ATS software. Clear Criminal Records Check with results acceptable to TI is required. Fluency in English is required and the ability to communicate in Inuktitut is a significant asset.
