How you Will Power our Purpose (Job Summary)
We’re looking for candidates to join our team as a Tap Dance Instructor, focusing on teaching students of various ages. You’ll develop dynamic lesson plans and deliver top-notch tap dance instruction in a supportive setting. Candidates must be available weekday evenings from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and weekends from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

How You Will Make an Impact (Essential Functions)

  • Plan and lead tap dance classes for children aged 3-12.
  • Create a fun and supportive learning environment that encourages creativity, rhythm, and coordination through tap dance.
  • Develop age-appropriate curriculum and lesson plans that cater to the developmental stages and abilities of young dancers.
  • Teach fundamental tap dance techniques, terminology, and skills while promoting a love for dance and music.
  • Incorporate storytelling, musicality, and movement exercises to enhance the tap dance learning experience.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of each student, providing constructive feedback and encouragement to support their growth and confidence.
  • Collaborate effectively with YMCA staff and parents to ensure open communication and engagement in the dance program.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during tap dance classes and activities.
  • Lead by example in promoting the YMCA’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the organization with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Be the ultimate storyteller of the YMCA’s work and culture.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Community Enterprise

  • Proven experience as a tap dance instructor, with proficiency in various tap dance styles and teaching methods.
  • Certification or formal training in tap dance instruction or dance education is preferred.
  • Experience working with children aged 3-12 in a dance or instructional setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate young dancers.
  • Patience, enthusiasm, and a passion for teaching tap dance and promoting physical activity.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hiring).
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is a plus.

Compensation: $15.00 - $22.00 per hour, DOE
