Job Title: Tax Analyst
Reports To: Manager, Tax
Department: Penguin Investments Inc., Corporate Tax
Position Summary
If you are contemplating a career in tax or are seeking a progressive tax role, the Tax Analyst position is a great opportunity to learn and work in a dynamic business environment. As a member of the Corporate Tax team, the Tax Analyst will contribute to the overall success of tax planning and compliance for the Penguin Group of Companies. A key aspect of the role is about gaining a thorough understanding of the businesses and applying analytical skills. As a diligent self-starter, the Tax Analyst will utilize accounting and tax concepts that they learnt from the completion of their accounting degree. While having working experience in a similar environment would be an asset, the team can provide further mentoring and guidance in completing more complex technical tasks.

ACADEMIC/PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong financial accounting and tax knowledge from post-secondary education;
  • Excellent Excel and Word skills;
  • Working knowledge oftax preparation software;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate across all levels within the company as well as with external parties;
  • Strong ability to work independently;
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare tax remittance analysis and ensure compliance with current monthly tax payments and payments of outstanding balances of prior taxation years;
  • Prepare Federal and Provincial tax returns and elections with supporting schedules;
  • Review and monitor incoming tax assessments and re-assessments;
  • Calculate the tax cost bases of properties, investments and other assets;
  • Prepare response to Federal and Provincial income tax audit queries;
  • Provide support and assistance with GST/HST/QST/PST audits;
  • Analyze tax impact of transactions and assess alternatives;
  • Perform special projects and assignments as required.
