Now Hiring - Tax Analyst, Trust (6 Months Contract)
Verifies and remits withholding taxes to CRA (Canada and Revenue Agency) and IRS (Internal Revenue Service) on a timely basis. Follows the guidelines of government tax authorities or company tax professionals, responds to tax related inquiries from clients and other departments. At year-end the individual is responsible for extracting and balancing tax forms for mailing and filing to the tax authorities.
This role is Hybrid 2 days/week at the office

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure that client dividend/interest payments are balanced on the system and that year-to-date totals are correct, on an ongoing basis.
  • Consult with the staff of Income Disbursement and Investor Correspondence to ensure tax adjustments are complete and accurate.
  • Complete monthly reconciliation of the Record Date list from Income Disbursement to the Link 4 Geo by Currency Link 4 summaries.
  • Complete monthly reconciliation of the Monthly Disbursement Link 4 Report to the Received General Cheque and BRP log.
  • Submit Receiver General payments to Revenue Canada by the 15th of each month.
  • Forward IRS tax remittances within established deadlines.
  • Participate in tax planning meetings.
  • Perform user testing of the tax system and submit change requests to the Manager upon identifying problems.
  • Trigger tax forms; ensure they are balanced and reflect the correct data and format.
  • Ensure that minimum reporting, gross ups and other specifications are correct on reports/forms/tapes and that the proper tax forms are used in production.
  • Maintain tax files for all clients with disbursements with follow-up for tax direction/Officer Certificates/NR account numbers.
  • Co-ordinate the production of manual or other tax forms.
  • Coordinate regulatory annual mailings.
  • Respond on a timely basis to mail, email, phone and fax correspondence.
  • Provide management reporting, as required.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Must Have (s):

  • College diploma or university degree in business, finance or accounting, or equivalent experience.
  • 1 to 3 years experience in a similar role.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office & Google Suite required
  • Communication: Good written, verbal and listening skills.
  • Adaptable: Flexibility and willingness to work simultaneously on a wide range of tasks and projects and ability to prioritize.
  • Confidentiality: Show discretion and ability to handle confidential issues.
  • Independent worker: High level of self-motivation and at ease working independently when necessary.
  • Interpersonal skills: Pleasant, diplomatic manner and disposition in interacting with senior management, co-workers and the general public.
  • Organization & Detail Oriented: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Teamwork: Works well in a team environment, actively contributes to the success of the group
  • Working under pressure: Poised, works well under pressure and accomplishing short- and long-term deadlines with a heavy workload.

Nice Have (s):

  • Knowledge of Tax software, CCH software, and Tax Prep software packages (Asset)
  • Financial services industry experience, an asset
