The Georgia Department of Revenue is hiring for a Tax Examiner 1 position to support its mission of administering state tax laws efficiently and fairly. The role involves reviewing various registration applications for completeness and compliance with federal and state requirements & communicating with internal and external customers on the status of pending applications and registrations via electronic and in-person interactions.

The Tax Examiner 1 plays a vital role in assisting customers in-person, via phone, and email. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Responding to inquiries and addressing customer issues while providing excellent customer service.
  • Ensuring returns, payments, and refunds are processed quickly and efficiently.
  • Using independent judgment to perform clerical duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in accounting or related field ~ or~ one year of job-related experience (e.g., Office Clerk, Secretary, Data Entry, Customer Service Window)

Preferred qualifications include work-related experience using and/or providing instruction for an online registration system, and/or work-related experience receiving and responding to emails

  • Current DoR temporary associates must have completed at least 6 consecutive months on the current assignment for consideration.

Salary: $38,200
Location: 1800 Century Blvd NE, Atlanta GA 30345. * This vacancy requires office hours of 8am – 5pm, Monday – Friday. A telework option of 1 in-office day every 8 weeks is contingent upon demonstrated proficiency after training. It is subject to change based on DOR policies and ability to meet performance expectations.
