We are looking for a Tax Manager to help grow our business and contribute to our future.
The Tax Manager will work with the Senior Finance team (CFO, Director of Finance, Director of Financial Reporting, Senior Manager, Complex Accounting and Controllers), the ISC Legal team and external service advisors as well as with various other members of the Finance and Corporate Governance teams to optimize ISC’s corporate structure and minimize ISC’s effective tax rate and cash taxes.
This position will also be responsible for the consolidated tax provision, preparing and filing corporate and commodity tax returns and other tax filings for all entities in the consolidated group, managing tax audits and providing tax advisory services on various corporate initiatives including mergers and acquisitions, asset purchases and conducting business in new jurisdictions.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, other highlights include:

  • Co-ordinate and review the monthly, quarterly and yearly tax provisions, financial statement note disclosures, as well as supporting documentation including associated current and deferred tax accounting ensuring all information is complete and accurate. Document and research technical matters and prepare position papers as required.
  • Coordinate, prepare and/or review domestic tax compliance and reporting, which presently includes corporate income tax and tax information returns, along with adjusted cost base, surplus, safe income, LRIP and tax related calculations for the parent company and all subsidiaries, T106’s, T1134’s and any other special forms.
  • Respond to and liaise with tax authorities on audit requests and manage all tax audits.
  • Co-ordinate, prepare and/or review all foreign tax compliance and reporting which presently includes Ireland, Luxembourg and the US engaging tax advisors as appropriate.
  • Prepare transfer pricing reporting and compilation of contemporaneous documentation with external consultants as required.
  • Co-ordinate, prepare and/or review monthly, quarterly or yearly commodity and value added tax filings in all jurisdictions and assist with interpretation of commodity tax rules. Together with Manager of Accounting, provide oversight on commodity tax accounting.
  • Determine and provide instructions regarding income tax or commodity tax payments and instalments.
  • Conduct lead role in developing, implementing and maintaining a tax provision model that incorporates all entities with the appropriate calculations, internal controls and documentation and supports internal management review and external audit review.
  • Co-ordinate and prepare SR&ED tax credit claims as applicable.
  • Provide recommendations to minimize the Company’s overall tax burden.
  • Maintain knowledge and stay current on Canadian tax law and international (including Irish, Luxembourg and US) tax trends and developments.
  • Develop awareness of and ability to navigate related IFRS accounting standards, including strong knowledge of IAS 12 and IFRIC 23.
  • Enhance the Finance team’s knowledge and application of income tax/commodity taxes through training sessions, making recommendations on how to incorporate tax requirements within accounting working papers, etc.
  • Establish and maintain well documented files to support tax compliance and planning initiatives.
  • Provide tax advisory services related to operating in foreign jurisdictions (including both corporate and employee related), transfer pricing, obtaining registration numbers, material contracts, etc.
  • Review of material Company contracts from a taxation point of view to identify any potential tax liability exposures, reporting/compliance issues or opportunities to optimize the Company’s tax position.
  • Participate in and ensure timely delivery of tax due diligence deliverables for investment acquisitions, divestitures, and reorganizations.

What you’ll need:

  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Commerce or other relevant field, with a major or focus in Accounting.
  • Recognized accounting designation (CPA/CA/CMA/CGA).
  • Minimum of 10 years of corporate tax experience, with some at a senior level is required; public company, international, cross border and foreign affiliate tax experience is an asset.
  • A strong technical tax background in Canadian tax is required; Knowledge of Irish, Luxembourg and/or US tax legislation is an asset.
  • Successfully completed the CPA In-Depth Tax course.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to make recommendations and interact effectively with the Finance team, other internal teams and communicate with external advisors.
  • Developed and demonstrated strong/thorough analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail oriented, driven to excel and demonstrates leadership and coaching abilities.

  • Experience with interpreting and applying Canadian tax legislation.
  • Knowledge of IFRS accounting standards including IAS 12 and IFRIC 23.
