Company Description
The Māori Student Support Centre aims to increase tauira Māori participation, engagement and success in the tertiary sector through exceptional pastoral care, student engagement and cultural care - manaakitanga. Offering a place where staff proving support to tauira Māori, can co-locate and provide personalised wrap around support when needed; a visibly Māori ‘safe-landing’ space for tauira of all levels of study at Waipapa Taumata Rau.
Job Description

IMPORTANT SKILLS | NGA PŪKENGA MOTUHAKE

You will have:

  • Experience in working with rangatahi Māori, ideally 5+ years
  • Experience leading and developing teams, ideally 3+ years
  • A working knowledge of the NZ tertiary education environment and/or the secondary school sector
  • Superior written and verbal skills – able to present to a range of environments and communicate persuasively and effectively to a range of people
  • Ability to listen to client needs and clearly communicate advice
  • Strong reporting and data analysis.

Additional Information

Responsibilities:

  • Strategy and Planning - Create and deliver a Māori Student Support Centre engagement strategy that enhances the wellbeing, participation and success of tauira Māori
  • Leadership - Champion the leadership of Māori Student Support Centre giving effect to the UoA pastoral care code of practice and the Marae Model of wellbeing.
  • Operational Activities – Delivery and promotion of a professional, seamless, and comprehensive advisory service.
  • Stakeholder Relationships - Ensure relationships are established and maintained with stakeholders including staff, students, external partners and organisations.
  • Tauira Māori Support - Delivery of high quality service of pastoral care and advisory support for tauira Māori
