Description:
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE:
- Essential: B.C. Ministry of Education Certificate or Independent School Certification qualification criteria
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with a Special Education/Inclusive Education focus
- Qualifications to teach at an intermediate and senior level
- Experience as a Learning Strategies Teacher at a senior school level
- A demonstrable awareness of the BC Ministry of Education Special Education policies and procedures
- Experience reading and interpreting psycho-educational assessments
- Experience creating and implementing IEPs
- An awareness of the learning preferences of girls and young women
- Collaborative and energetic with a passion for teaching
- Committed to the craft of teaching, best practices, and standards of professional practice
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, negotiation and mediation skills
- A commitment toward continued professional development and growth
- Energy, commitment and a readiness to participate in the co-curricular program and the diverse life of the school community
Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs
- Create, implement, and review IEPs, Student Support Plans, and Essential Learning Plans
- Maintain documentation and records for individual students, ensuring confidentiality in reporting
- Communicate and collaborate with students, parents, teachers, administration and outside agencies to support student learning
- Collaborate with teachers in differentiation and Universal Design strategies and supports for implementation in classrooms
- Direct instruction of executive functioning skills
- Direct supervision and oversight of application of accommodations within assessments
- Model evidence-based, research informed, impactful teaching and learning practices in their own teaching in up to 1 section as needed
- Facilitate meetings between students, parents and Senior School teachers
- Provide appropriate feedback to advisors and parents on student progress through regular communication
- Work as a collaborative and supportive member of the Student Services department
- Participate in school meetings and events, including school planning and professional development
- Create a positive and supportive culture for learning
- Set annual professional goals
- Support the growth and development of individual learners through the delivery of the Crofton House School Advisory program
- Build relationships with teachers and staff across the school community
- Be an active and positive participant in the co-curricular program and afterschool learning strategies sessions for students
