THE POST

Due to our expansion applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals who are passionate and forward thinking and who will thrive in the vibrant learning environment of Hartland. By being ambitious, not only for students but for yourself, you will help us build and maintain a successful programme of study in Science by sharing in the responsibility for teaching, learning, enrichment and pastoral care. The successful candidate will also be expected to make a contribution to our unique and strong enrichment programme which ensures that learning and opportunity are diverse for all.
Science is taught at all Key Stages. Years 7 to 9 follow a course based on the Science National Curriculum using Hodder’s Springboard course, which follows cognitive principles and is adapted for our school and students. At GCSE, students follow the AQA Combined Science Trilogy specification or can opt to study Separate Sciences in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, also with AQA. All three science subjects are offered at A Level, following the AQA specification. The science department achieved great success last year, with 100% of students attaining a grade 4 or above across all three sciences.
All science lessons are taught in purpose-built laboratories in a suite of eight labs, supported by two full-time Science Technicians. All laboratories are equipped with interactive whiteboards.
As a department and a school, we believe that student learning does not only occur in the classroom, and we feel students benefit immensely from outdoor and extra-curricular education; the UAE provides a wealth of opportunities for this. We offer a variety of trips throughout the year and a range of in-house extra-curricular science clubs, from primary through to secondary, such as Medical Society, Space Club, and clubs led by older students to engage younger ones in STEM learning.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, skilled, and student-focused teacher to join our friendly department. Applicants must hold a relevant degree, a PGCE, and have experience in a UK curriculum school. (Teaching qualifications will be checked for suitability before interviews are offered.)
