An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Suffolk County Council (SCC) Specialist Education Services (SES) within the Physical and Sensory Service as a Specialist Teacher for children and Young People (CYP) with a hearing loss (Teacher of the Deaf or ToD).
Responsibilities:
You will:
- support individual CYP and their families in their understanding of deafness and what that means for them
- support and empower schools to be inclusive, to understand how to meet the needs of their deaf children and young people and how to make learning accessible
- work in partnership with schools and settings; modelling best practice and demonstrating and sharing a variety of resources, impactful approaches, and strategies
- liaise with and facilitate joint working with families and with other relevant partners and agencies, to review progress and to secure the learner’s success and inclusion
- promote inclusive classrooms through delivering effective and high-quality training
- work collaboratively with the other services within the Specialist Education Services (SES) and the wider Inclusion Service
- work within SES and be responsible for managing a caseload. This will include making visits, attending meetings, completing visit records and inclusion plans
- be required to plan and deliver direct teaching to CYP who are deaf, either in their mainstream placement or within a specialist resource base
- carry out assessments, set targets, evaluate progress and contribute to service data collection as directed by your line manager
- be responsible for delivering training to education settings
- support the effective use of hearing technology
- update your own knowledge and qualifications through continued professional development.
