INSTITUTE FOR MARKETING AND CUSTOMER ANALYTICS

The Institute for Marketing and Customer Analytics is seeking applications for the position as a Teaching and Research Associate (Universitätsassistent*in prae doc; 30 hours per week).
The position is ideal for individuals who wish to deepen their quantitative marketing skills and join applied research projects on the interfaces between marketing and data science. It opens doors to an academic career for a self-motivated, team-oriented, highly active and productive researcher, who will be expected to make a significant contribution to the Institute’s research areas.
About the Institute:
We aim at being a leading institution for research and education in the field of marketing and customer analytics. The marketing landscape is being radically transformed by advances of information technology, online media and artificial intelligence (AI) enabled tools. We recognize these emerging challenges by developing innovative tools that support consumers and managers in making better decisions. Our research is interdisciplinary with links to statistics, economics, psychology, and computer science. We leverage advanced statistical techniques, machine learning and generative AI to develop marketing models for managerial decision support. Our students seek research-driven course content and wish to acquire analytical skills in marketing research, business analytics, and decision support.
What to expect
- Writing a dissertation: You will be investigating your research topic and spending a third of your working hours on writing your dissertation in the rapidly growing field of applying machine learning and AI in marketing.
- Research for yourself and others: You will support publications, conduct experiments and research projects in co-operation with colleagues from WU’s marketing and customer analytics group and international cooperation partners. Ideally, your set of skills is compatible with the Institute’s current research projects (learn more at: https://www.wu.ac.at/mca/research).
- Learning from top researchers: You will have the opportunity to work together with renowned researchers in the marketing field and to learn from them. Recurring research and PhD seminars will help you to improve your ongoing research projects.
- Teaching courses and teaching support: You will be planning and teaching courses in the field of marketing and customer analytics at the Bachelor’s level independently and co-teach at the MSc level.
- Student support: You will be available to answer students’ questions, provide feedback on seminar papers, coach students in their projects and act as a co-advisor for bachelor and master theses.
- Teamwork: You will be working to advance research in the area of marketing and customer analytics together with an experienced and truly international team. Look forward to a welcoming atmosphere and open-minded discussions.
- Building and enhancing your personal network: You will create or enhance your own professional network for the future.
What you have to offer
- Degree: We are looking for applicants with a solid academic qualification, i.e., an outstanding master’s degree (or equivalent qualification) in economics, marketing analytics, information systems, business engineering, mathematics, physics, statistics, or computer science (or a related field) with a strong focus on quantitative topics - such as marketing science, econometrics, operations research, machine learning, or finance - that qualifies you for enrollment in a doctoral program at WU.
- Data analytical skills: You have outstanding prior knowledge of statistics and empirical research methods. This includes analyzing data using statistical models and econometric techniques (e.g., using R, Matlab or Python) and/or machine learning skills (e.g., using PyTorch).
- Experience in marketing and customer analytics: Experience in the field of marketing analytics and customer research (e.g., through internships, student jobs, or working on one’s own website) is beneficial.
- Communication skills: For research and teaching purposes, we expect you to have an excellent oral and written command of English, ideally also proficiency in German.
- Ability to develop and deliver excellent teaching at Bachelor’s and/or Master’s level in marketing marketing-related fields. Any prior teaching and/or publishing experience would be ideal but is not essential.
- Willingness to use multimedia teaching methods: You are prepared to use multimedia teaching and learning formats.
- Working style: We look for enthusiastic, curious team players, who are passionate about marketing and customer analytics and research. You work independently, show initiative, are willing to take on responsibility, and have good self-organization skills.

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €2,684.10 (14 times per year). This salary may be adjusted based on job-related prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
