Description:
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 30 June 2026 in the first instance.
Applications are invited for a Teaching Associate in Politics and International Studies in the Department of Politics and International Studies. The post is available from 1 January 2025 to 30 June 2026. The role holder should have a proven specialist academic interest in one or more of the following areas: International Relations, preferably with a specific engagement with Historical International Relations and/or International Organisation; Comparative Politics, with a specific engagement in a region or group of countries within a region; quantitative methods in political science. They will be qualified to PhD level in this or a related subject area.
The successful candidate will be expected to undertake the following duties and responsibilities:
- To plan and deliver supervisions in the Department. It is expected that the successful candidate will contribute at least 8 hours of undergraduate supervisions weekly throughout term-time.
- To give up to 10 lectures and/or seminars (including postgraduate level) across the year on a topic or topics in which the candidate has an academic interest.
- To provide academic guidance and advice to undergraduate students and graduate students.
- To take part in Tripos examining, including the marking of papers, and the marking of undergraduate dissertations.
- To take part in postgraduate coursework and dissertation examination.
- Other duties as required by the Head of the Department commensurate with the nature and grade of the post.
Candidates will need to show evidence of the following qualifications, skills and experience:
- Good first degree and qualified, or nearly qualified, to PhD level in specialist area.
- Evidence of ability to teach the subject effectively at undergraduate level with an emphasis on one or more of the above-mentioned areas.
- Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication abilities
- Ability to play an effective role in the life and work of the Department.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
