Description:
Teaching: The successful applicant will be responsible for delivering clinical teaching sessions to Newcastle University medical students attached to Newcastle Hospitals. The Trust has a role in the delivery of teaching to all 5 years of the undergraduate MBBS programme but most of the teaching will be delivered to students in years 3, 4 and 5. As well as delivering fixed commitments within the programme it is hoped Teaching Fellows will develop their own innovative ideas for clinical teaching during their time with us. The Trust Undergraduate Team consists of a group of enthusiastic Clinicians under the leadership of Deputy Director of Medical Education (UG) Dr Ian Baxter, supported by Teaching Fellow Lead Dr Andrew Stanton and an invaluable team of administrative staff.
We will offer support and supervision over the year as well as training and mentorship so that you develop your own teaching skills and understanding of wider issues in medical education. As well as being offered in-house induction and training, the post holder will also be supported to undertake a Certificate of Clinical Education as part of this post. Clinical: Assessing patients, diagnosing and escalating to registrar / consultant level when necessary.
Taking bloods ordering other tests including MRI, x-ray etc. The duties will include attending relevant MDTs Personal Education: All staff are encouraged to learn from the extensive clinical education activities that take place in the Trust, and there are a number of weekly meetings that provide excellent educational opportunities. Successful applicants will be encouraged to study for the postgraduate certificate in clinical education. Administrative: Successful applicants will be expected to carry out all administrative tasks allocated to him/her by the Medical Education Manager, or clinical supervisor, including keeping of inpatient records, ordering investigations and receiving results.
Research/Audit: The medical education department has a strong reputation for excellent medical education and there are many ongoing projects. The high volume of educational activity performed in the Trust ensures there is a vast opportunity to instigate and perform research/audit projects. Such activity is encouraged and results presented at regional andnational meeting
