About us:
King’s College London is a world-leading institution with a reputation for research excellence (9th nationally in the 2021 UK REF research ‘power’ ranking). KCL is also the largest centre for the education of doctors, dentists and other healthcare professionals in Europe and home to six Medical Research Council Centres. The role will be undertaken in the Centre for Host-Microbiome Interactions (CHMI), which comprises 33 PIs. All PIs are internationally recognised as world leaders in several scientific and clinical disciplines including mucosal disease, immunology, microbial pathogenesis, host-pathogen interactions, microbiome, bioinformatics, and oral cancer. The CHMI has a vibrant microbiome research and teaching community with PhD students and post-doctoral scientists working in both computational and wet- lab areas, with a high degree of cross talk. The CHMI possesses or has access to state-of-the-art core facilities designed for molecular, cellular, immunological, and microbiological research, and extensive scientific expertise resulting from complementary research programmes. There is a continual interchange of ideas, reagents, and personnel training between these programmes to facilitate research.
About the role:
We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Teaching Fellow with experience in delivery of computational teaching for the King’s College London MSc program in Microbiome in Health and Disease and MSc in Applied Bioinformatics courses.
The successful candidate will be responsible for updating and re-designing course material, as well as delivering bioinformatics workshops and demonstrations in microbiome and bioinformatics analysis. In addition, the post will be involved in grading of examinations and reports. The post will also provide general administrative teaching tasks and student learning support outside of seminars and workshops. The candidate will also contribute to provision and supervision of student 6-month research projects.
The role involves collaboration with lecturers and other staff members involved in the courses as well as with the faculty teaching administrative support team.
This is a full time post and you will be offered an fixed term contract until 6 October 2025

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
1. MSc or higher in Life Sciences subject
2. Familiar with bioinformatics practices and programming
3. Higher education teaching training
4. Experience with developing and delivering teaching in higher education
5. Experience of student assessment and feedback
6. Excellent oral and written communication skills
7. Strong verbal communication and interpersonal interaction skills relevant to pastoral support of students
8. Ability to interact with staff and students
Desirable criteria
1. Knowledge and understanding of microbiome concepts
2. Course and/or workshop design
3. Experience with developing online courses
4. Experience in research and research presentation
5. Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or equivalent teaching qualification
