Description:

The Department of Chemistry is looking to recruit a Teaching Laboratory Technician to support the delivery of its integrated practical chemistry course to undergraduate students. This is a varied role that offers the opportunity to gain experience of supporting a range activity at the heart of a busy teaching facility.
Based in one of the two undergraduate Chemistry Teaching Laboratories, you will work within a team of technicians supporting the two Chemistry Teaching Laboratories and Analytical Suite which will be operational all year round.
In term time, you will provide support to undergraduate students on the integrated Practical course, demonstrating laboratory equipment and practical techniques, supporting the students’ understanding of the experiments.
In the vacations the focus will be on providing technical support for outreach activity, course development, graduate training and other events taking place in the Chemistry Teaching Laboratories in addition to general maintenance and servicing of the laboratory environment. The post is located Chemistry Teaching Laboratory, Department of Chemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford and will commence no later than September 2024. This a permanent appointment.
You will have an A-level in Chemistry or related subject (or equivalent qualifications and/or experience) and a good knowledge and understanding of general science including a demonstrable interest in all branches of Chemistry. You will be able to demonstrate a practical understanding of setting up and operating a variety of laboratory equipment and apparatus in a teaching laboratory environment, together with the ability to engage with students effectively. Previous experience of working in an undergraduate teaching laboratory environment is desirable but not essential.
