Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director, Security & Emergency Services, the Security & Emergency Services Assistant provides administrative support to ensure the effective delivery of various services and programs related to the fire safety, security, and emergency preparedness of staff, housing developments, and tenants across the province. He/she/they supports the Security & Emergency Services (SES) department with the organization of expenses and purchases, distribution and tracking of emergency equipment, maintenance of information records in safety-related systems, and general operational support.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Secondary school graduation plus completion of post-secondary courses in office or business administration or other relevant field.
  • Considerable experience related to office administration.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience suitable to the employer.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Sound practical knowledge of the rules, practices and procedures of office and program administration
  • Sound knowledge of accounting processes to create a purchase order and pay, create, and track invoices
  • Proficient in standard word processing, database, and other relevant applications
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical, research and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team, contributing and cooperating in a team environment
  • Ability to apply regulations and follow established guidelines
  • Ability to work under pressure during stressful and emergency situations
  • Ability to learn the Commission’s fire safety, security, and emergency preparedness programs and requirements for its housing developments would be an asset
  • Ability to learn incident command systems, building damage assessment, emergency management, business continuity planning, building security, video surveillance., and/or emergency lodging
