JOB DESCRIPTION: TEAM LEAD - FRONT OF HOUSE

Job Title: Team Lead - Front of House
Department: Restaurant - Front of House
Department Head: Director, Food & Beverage
Job Summary:The Team Lead - FOH will primarily work in one of the following roles: bartender, server, or support staff, while also serving as the Manager on Duty (MOD) during their shifts. In addition to performing their core responsibilities, they will be trained across all front-of-house positions and be prepared to step into any role as needed. This position requires leadership skills, flexibility, and the ability to manage both guest needs and staff performance.

  • Familiarity with iPad POS systems or ability to learn quickly

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary Responsibilities (Bartender, Server, or Host):

Perform assigned duties as:

  • Bartender (Section A)
  • Server (Section B) or
  • Support Staff (Section C)
  • Ensuring exceptional service and guest satisfaction.
  • Fill in for other roles (bartender, server, host) as needed during staff shortages or busy periods

Manager on Duty (MOD) Responsibilities:

  • Act as the MOD, overseeing front-of-house operations in the absence of senior management
  • Address escalated guest inquiries, resolve complaints, and ensure a positive guest experience
  • Monitor operational efficiency, including guest flow, staff coordination, and service quality
  • Lead the team during busy periods, ensuring proper staff deployment and guest satisfaction
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth communication and operational flow

Staff Training & Development Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the onboarding and training of new front-of-house staff, ensuring they are familiar with all roles and operational standards
  • Provide ongoing training and development to improve staff skills, performance, and service consistency
  • Ensure new hires are effectively integrated into the team and can perform their duties independently
  • Offer constructive feedback to staff to enhance performance and promote professional growth

Compliance & Safety:

  • Follow Ontario SmartServe policies
  • Identify and address potential hazards to maintain a safe environment for staff and guests.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment by adhering to health and safety standards
  • Take on additional duties as assigned by the Director, Food & Beverage

Beverage Service:

  • Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks according to recipes
  • Take orders and provide drink recommendations

Bar Maintenance:

  • Set up and break down the bar for each shift, ensuring cleanliness and readiness
  • Keep the bar clean and organized
  • Stock and replenish supplies (glassware, garnishes, etc.)

Guest Interactions:

  • Greet guests, take drink orders, and engage with them to ensure satisfaction.
  • Handle guest concerns or complaints professionally

Compliance & Safety:

  • Follow Ontario SmartServe policies
  • Take on additional duties as assigned by the Director, Food & Beverage
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment by adhering to health and safety standards

RESPONSIBILITIES

Guest Service:

  • Greet guests promptly and professionally as they arrive
  • Take orders table-side using the iPad POS system, providing menu recommendations and assisting with dietary preferences
  • Provide menu recommendations and assist guests with dietary preferences
  • Ensure food and beverages are delivered to tables in a timely manner
  • Connect with guests during their stay to ensure satisfaction and address any issues or special requests
  • Process payments and ensure guests leave with a positive experience

Table Maintenance:

  • Keep the dining area clean and organized throughout the shift
  • Refill water glasses, condiments, cutlery roll-ups and assist with additional service needs

Team Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with other team members to ensure efficient service
  • Communicate effectively with kitchen, bar staff and management regarding guest orders or special requests
  • Assist with bussing and resetting tables as needed

Compliance & Safety:

  • Follow Ontario SmartServe policies
  • Take on additional duties as assigned by the Director, Food & Beverage
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment by adhering to health and safety standards

RESPONSIBILITIES

Guest Service:

  • Greet guests warmly and guide them to their assigned tables
  • Manage the reservation system and organize waitlists
  • Answer phone calls, provide information, and assist with reservations
  • Maintain a positive, friendly demeanor with guests at all times
  • Receive and process takeout orders

Table Service

  • Deliver food from the kitchen to guest tables in a timely and organized manner
  • Ensure the presentation and accuracy of all food orders before delivering to guests
  • Assist servers by ensuring guests have everything they need during their meal
  • Communicate with the kitchen to ensure food orders are completed and accurate

Table Maintenance:

  • Clear dirty dishes, glassware, and silverware from tables promptly
  • Reset tables for the next guests, ensuring they are clean and fully prepared
  • Assist with maintaining cleanliness in the dining area, including floors and high-traffic spaces
  • Refill water glasses, provide additional utensils, and support the servers in other ways

Team Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with other team members to ensure efficient service
  • Communicate effectively with kitchen, bar staff and management regarding guest orders or special requests

Job Types: Part-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 2-6 months
Pay: $17.20-$19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 30 per week
