MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field and 5+ years of experience in student affairs, event management and/or risk management.
  • Experience supervising staff and/or volunteers.
  • Experience working effectively with diverse student populations.
  • Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to an inclusive and diverse environment.
  • Proven ability to build professional relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ability to make informed decisions within complex policy frameworks.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent critical thinking and decision-making abilities in fast-paced settings.
  • High initiative and dedication to exceptional student service.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree.
  • Familiarity with the student life cycle, student services, university administration, university and student governance, and University of Alberta Policies and Procedures.
  • Familiarity with student conduct.
  • Working knowledge of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate a team of Student Affairs Advisors.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative work culture and support professional growth.
  • Assist with budget planning and act as a backup for the Manager, Student Affairs.
  • Manage the recognition, event planning, and risk management processes for student groups.
  • Oversee high-risk and complex events, ensuring safety and compliance with university policies.
  • Maintain accurate records and collaborate with key stakeholders, including the Students’ Union.
  • Provide guidance to student leaders and address student group conduct issues using restorative practices.
  • Lead investigations related to student group conduct and policy compliance.
  • Develop and evaluate training programs for student leaders.
  • Gather data and conduct assessments to improve processes and inform policy changes.
  • Support student engagement initiatives such as orientation and campus-wide events.
  • Serve on committees that promote student experience, equity, and inclusion.
