Description:

Company in Johannesburg is looking for a Team Leader to join their team.
To assist in all departments within the warehousing environment, inclusive of all the input / output key elements within the daily Logistics and Supply chain movement of inbound and outbound shipments. Duties include ownership in the supervisor’s absence, managing staff and checking cargo and documentation.
Duties And Accountabilities

  1. Receiving of cargo
  • Assist with offloading of stock from vehicles by hand or reach truck / forklift
  • Assist with ensuring that all handling markings on product packaging is adhered to
  • Check and inspect physical stock received and note any damages
  • Assist with placing damaged shipments in the “Blocked” bin location(s) pending customer decision
  • Write and capture GRV timeously – aim for a 9 (nine) hour turnaround time for goods received
  • Submit GRV to the admin department for system capturing
  • Ensure you have checked and confirmed cargo offloaded
  • Assist with any client scanning where necessary
  • Assist with transporting shipments in and around the warehouse as requested in all areas incl . bond and/ or free store
  • Bin stock in open bin locations / put away sheet and sign off documentation accordingly
  • Write and capture bin transfer sheet
  • Ensure to check system if stock can be consolidated with other items to utilize space more efficiently
  • All signed documentation then handed back to warehouse admin team
  • Assist with any special product bundling orders and configurations that require forklift movement
  • From time to time, you will be required to offload stock at an offsite facility of a client.
  1. Dispatching of cargo from the warehouse facility or any off-site facilities
  • Picking instructions will be communicated via a picking slip
  • All clients to be picked by the picking slip, this includes free store or bonded cargo
  • From time to time, you will also be required to assist in other warehouse departments
  • When picking, attention to the product code, batch number, serial number, quantity as well as expiry date or any other client specific requirements must be adhered to
  • All picking slips will have the bin location listed
  • Pick stock as per client standard operating procedures
  • If stock is not found in the bin location, you need to report immediately to your team leader or supervisor
  • If you are unsure of any information on the picking slip this also needs to be communicated to your team leader or supervisor
  • All picked stock needs to be checked by an auditor / checker/ dispatch clerk before leaving the warehouse
  • Ensure you have checked and confirmed cargo picked before dispatching
  • All pick slips are to be verified with the invoice or dispatch note attached to ensure documentation matches
  • All signed documentation then handed back to Warehouse Admin Team
  • Assist with any special product bundling orders and configurations that require forklift movement
  • From time to time, you will be required to load stock at a client.
  • Daily handovers to Express which must include cargo and documentation to be done as per the roaster
  1. Warehouse collections
  • Assist clients and courier companies with the handover of goods as quickly as possible
  • Escalate any uncertainties or complaints
  • No stock to be handed over without paperwork
  • Follow warehouse SOPs as per client requirements
  1. Packing of stock
  • Ensure stock that is binned or picked is free from dust
  • Is securely strapped and packed onto a pallet / vehicle or container
  • No stock to be directly placed onto the floor unless instructed by a client otherwise
  • All binned stock to be shrink wrapped and securely stored
  • On dispatch ensure again, stock is free of dust and securely transported and loaded
  1. House Keeping
  • Assist with ensuring that pallets / cargo is packed neatly / free of dust and cleaned daily
  • Ensure your daily checks are done as per the cleaning roaster
  • Assist with keeping floor clean and neat and free of rubbish
  • Ensure all fire exits are clear and free of obstacles or the pest control
  1. Ensure that checklist procedure is carried out on the forklift
  • Ensure forklift and reach truck are clean every morning
  • Report any leakages or damages to machines to your team leader or supervisor
  • Ensure that all fluid levels in the forklift is checked daily, this includes the battery water and brake fluid (where possible)
  • Check that engine and hydraulics are in good working order and functional
  • Make sure that there are no obstructions on or in and around the forklift that could damage the forklift in anyway
  1. Daily stock counts
  • Assist with daily cycle counts or monthly full counts as and when necessary, as per the Inventory Team
  • Assist with relocating stock from bin-to-bin location as directed from inventory controller
  • Complete bin transfer sheets and sign
  • Complete damage stock lists for clients
  • Complete expired stock lists for clients
  • Assist with aligning and straightening stock in bin locations every day as per daily hygiene checklist
  1. Adherence to policies, safety, legislation, and security requirements
  • Immediately notify your superior of any transgressions
  • Maintain housekeeping standards
  • Render logistical support to members of own team to ensure client KPI’s are achieved
  • Contribute towards continuous improvement through submitting improvements based on being measurable & achievable and in place and working
  1. Reverse logistics
  • Contribute towards continuous improvement through submitting improvements based on being measurable & achievable and in place and working
  • Assist with the entire reverse logistics process that requires forklift and driver assistance, as per flow chart
  1. Special Food Grade Requirements / Example: Nando’s Specific Requirements
  • Follow Nando’s SOPs as per handbook for Supply Chain, Groceries, and Peri Farms
  • Strict audit requirements and personal hygiene measures are in place as per the handbook
  • Ensure you familiarise yourself with the specific requirements
  • All non-conformances to be registered and followed up
  • Samples to be counted and reported monthly or on request
  • Strict allergen separation plan in place as per compliance guideline
  • No damages, leakages, opened boxes or damaged pallets / packaging allowed in these facilities
  1. Ad hoc
  • You will be required to work overtime as and when needed. A monthly roaster will be shared with you prior
  • There will be a monthly roaster for all staff to work weekends and / or before / after public holidays. This roaster is drafted by the respected manager and needs to be adhered to
  • You might be required to perform other duties from time to time that are out of the above spec. these would be reasonable requests that are in line with Logistics and Express operations. E.g., assisting another division or warehouse/ transport team in their daily operation
  1. Staff Management
  • Coordinate staff tea and lunch time (roasters)
  • Ensure timely arrival of all staff
  • Manage and communicate daily tasks
  • Ensure client deadlines are met
  • Ensure tasks are carried out timeously
  • Quality check outgoing orders
  • Audit bin location vs system
  • Mentor the Hygiene roaster and walk the floor daily to ensure no damaged pallets / stock. Dirt, plastics or other items are not lying around
  • Communicate quality expectations of the department on a regular basis
  • Hold and minute daily / weekly toolbox talks
  • Mediate between colleagues where necessary

Requirements

  • Matric or Senior Certification equivalent
  • At least 2 - 3 years’ experience in the field of Logistics and Supply chain and its key contributors
